posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese website Movie Collection began streaming a 97-second special trailer for the second We Were There (Bokura ga Ita) film on Friday. Director Takahiro Miki adapted Yuuki Obata's romanga manga of the same name with Toma Ikuta (Akihabara @ DEEP) and Yuriko Yoshitaka (Gantz) in the lead roles.
The story follows a girl named Nanami Takahashi (Yoshitaka) as she struggles with her decade-long relationship with Motoharu Yano (Ikuta), her high school's most popular boy who has his own issues from his past. In the second film, the story shifts to Tokyo six years later as the two cross paths again. However, both of their love lives have become more complicated since the last time they saw each other.
The first film opened last month, and the second will open on Saturday.
The 15 volumes of the manga have sold over 12 million copies in Japan since 2002, and Obata just ended the manga in February. Viz Media will publish the 14th volume in North America next month. The manga already inspired a television anime series from Artland in 2006.
