Say Hello to Black Jack Author Frees Title From Copyright Protection

Manga author Shuho Sato announced that he is now allowing free secondary use of his manga Say Hello to Black Jack. This includes both commercial and non-commercial use domestically and abroad. Giving examples, he stated that people are free to use the original work to create editions in foreign languages, films, applications, anime, and more without any royalty payments.
Sato earlier stated his plans to free the usage of his title in this way this April, when he cancelled his contract with Kodansha and ordered all copies of it by the publisher to be taken out of circulation. The manga is currently available for free on the creator's website.
