The North American licensing company Maiden Japan announced on Wednesday that it acquired the original video anime Ruin Explorers. The company will release the anime in conjunction with home video distributor Section23 Films on bilingual DVD on July 2 and in digital formats.

Takeshi Mori (Vandread, Stratos 4, Gunsmith Cats) wrote the screenplay and directed the 1995 series, Toshihisa Kaiya (Robotics;Notes, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) designed the characters and directed the animation, and Masamichi Amano (Battle Royale, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, Giant Robo) handled the music.

The series, based on Kunihiko Tanaka's two-volume Hikyō Tanken Fam & Ihrlie manga, centers on the titular women Fam and Ihrlie, two magic users who are competing with others to find the "Ultimate Power" by searching out three relics.

ADV Films previously released the series on DVD.
