The Hackney Picturehouse cinema (map) has announced a screening of INTERSTELLA 5555, the 2003 anime musical feature created by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk and anime/manga creator Leiji Matsumoto.
The event will take place on Friday May 24, as part of a party to celebrate the new Daft Punk album, Random Access Memories. The party will start at 9 p.m., with the screening beginning at 11.30 p.m. Tickets for the event are available on the cinema website.
According to the press release, the party will feature "DJs from Hackney Attic's regular indie/pop night, Salt.Sweat.Sugar on the Dancefloor, who'll be playing the new album alongside Daft Punk collaborators and influences before the screening."
In INTERSTELLA 5555, Toei Animation adapted the songs from Daft Punk's Discovery album into a space opera story. Matsumoto's numerous credits include Galaxy Express 999, Queen Millennia, Space Battleship Yamato, and Space Pirate Captain Harlock.
