Capcom Polls Fan Support for Physical Ace Attorney 5 Release

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies (Gyakuten Saiban 5) producer Motehide Eshiro stated that if fans of Ace Attorney 5 "push hard enough," CAPCOM will consider a physical release in North America. Eshiro stated that CAPCOM decided to release the game as a digital-only to shorten the gap between the Japanese and English release and for user's convenience.

"We didn't want to have too much lag time between the Japanese and American versions," Eshiro said. "Offering a downloadable version was one of the ways to cut down that lag time."

CAPCOM USA Senior Vice-President Christian Svensson cited poor sales in Western markets as the reason behind the digital-only release. Svensson is now asking fans to show support in CAPCOM's forums and on Twitter to present to the company's higher-ups.

"If things go well and demand is there, in a few weeks I may be able to present an option that puts the ball back in the fans' court,” Svennson said. “I want to stress the word 'may' so as to not misrepresent the situation or promise anything. We are trying. Again, timing and pricing would be at a disadvantage to the digital option as an assumption you should make.”

The game will ship on July 25 in Japan with a limited-edition version that includes a Phoenix Wright figure. It will then arrive in the West this fall.
