Australia's Madman Entertainment Adds Nerawareta Gakuen
posted on by Egan Loo
Australian anime distributor Madman Entertainment announced on Sunday that it licensed Sunrise's Psychic School Wars (Nerawareta Gakuen) anime film for release on DVD, with Blu-ray Disc as a future possibility. Madman Entertainment is the first company outside of Japan to license this work.
Kōji Seki attends Abeno 6th Middle School, a prep school where the high emphasis on studying leads to unruly students. When Michiru Takamizawa is elected the student council president she begins ruling over the school with a brutal iron fist. Kōji rises up against Michiru and Kazumi Kusumoto joins him in the battle with the student council.
Nerawareta Gakuen is based off Taku Mayumura's 1976 science-fiction children's novel of the same name. The novel has previously inspired four live-action television adaptations and two live-action films. However this anime film adaptation is the first time the novel has been made into an anime feature. The film was produced by Sunrise's Studio 8 (My-HiME, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, Accel World) with director Ryosuke Nakamura (Mōryō no Hako, Aoi Bungaku Series) and released in Japanese theaters in November 2012.
Madman Entertainment also announced that it licensed The Garden of Words (for theatrical distribution), Mega Man, Kamisama Kiss, and Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie.
