Composer Joe Hisaishi Invited to Join Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences

Composer Joe Hisaishi was invited to join the the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday in the Music category. A total of 276 invites were sent out this year. Hisaishi composed the score for two Academy Award-winning films — Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away (Best Animated Film in 2003) and Yojiro Takita's live-action film Departures (Best Foreign Language Film in 2009). He is also composing the scores for Ghibli's upcoming films The Wind Rises and Kaguya-hime no Monogatari.

Miyazaki was invited into the Academy at least three times, but he declined each time.
