Singer and television personality Akiko Wada starred in two commercials that aired Thursday for Attack on Titan's smartphone app, "Shingeki no Kyoujin -Jiyū he no Hōkō-" (Attack on Titan -Call for Freedom-). She enacts the role of a titan in both a 30-second and a 15-second commercial.
The announcer in the commercial says "that popular anime... Attack on Titan has finally become a smartphone app."
During Attack on Titan's television broadcast, many twitter users tweeted images of a titan who resembled Akiko Wada. Her resemblance to the titan rapidly spread across the internet and Wada stated for Oricon Style's article, "I used to laugh thinking I kind of looked like it, but to be offered a role in a commercial..."
The "Attack on Titan for au Smart Pass" smartphone app launched in February, and includes side stories on characters from Hajime Isayama's manga series. Every month, the free app will focus on one character and will have a fictional interview with that character. Furthermore, every week, there will be chance conversation between two characters as they "take shelter from the rain." The app also contains an Attack on Titan database connected to the side stories. Once a character makes an appearance in a side story, the character's data will be added. Ultimately, the database will include over 60 items.
