One Piece: Unlimited World R's 2nd Gameplay Video Introduces Battles

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Multi-platform version to ship in N. America on July 8

Bandai Namco Games began streaming a second "adventure" gameplay video for One Piece: Unlimited World Red game on Thursday. In the "battle version" video, the characters Chōpper and Usopp return to discuss the game characters' fighting abilities.

The game will have a new One Piece Battle Coliseum mode (One Piece Battle Colosseum in Japanese) which "will closely resemble the latest episodes of One Piece and bring heart-pounding action and glory to the ring as pirates fight relentlessly to earn top rankings." The mode will have 20 playable characters, including Trafalgar Law, Hancock, Buggy, Crocodile, Jinbei, Portegas D. Ace, Akainu, Edward Newgate, Shanks, Donquixote Doflamingo, and Fujitora.

The new multi-platform version will arrive in North America on July 8. The PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo 3DS versions will be available in physical retail packages, while the Wii U version will be digital-only. An exclusive Day One Edition will commemorate One Piece's 15th anniversary with downloadable costumes (for Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Chōpper, Zoro, Usopp, Franky, Robin, and Brook) and an additional quest, while supplies last.

The game allows up to four players to play together, and players can explore the world of One Piece with their friends. Players can embark on different quests and battle enemies with many of the manga and anime's familiar characters. The game also allows players to fish, catch bugs, hunt for treasure, and more to develop and train their characters. The game features the original character Red (voiced by Masachika Ichimura), the game's nemesis who aims to be the Pirate King. Standing in his way are the Straw Hat Pirates and a new raccoon character named Pat (TARAKO).

Ganbarion developed the "multi action-adventure" title. The game features original characters designed by One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda, including Red, Pat, and Yadoya (Rumi Hiiragi).

The game already shipped for Nintendo 3DS in Japan last November, and the other platforms will receive the game in Japan on June 12. The game inspired two Nintendo 3DS XL color variants in Japan: Luffy Red and Chōpper Pink. The first copies of the game included the download codes for a limited adventure costume of Luffy from One Piece Film Strong World, as well as an additional Marineford quest with Ace as a playable character.
