Website: Gus Van Sant to Direct Warners' Live-Action Death Note

Good Will Hunting director replaces Iron Man 3's Black in adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba, Takeshi Obata's manga

Website The Tracking Board is reporting that American director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk) will direct Warner Brothers' planned live-action film adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's Death Note manga. Iron Man 3 director Shane Black had said in an interview last year that he was still connected to the project, but The Tracking Board lists that Van Sant has replaced him.

The website is also reporting that Vertigo's Roy Lee (The Lake House, Shutter) and Doug Davison (Dark Water, The Lake House), Lin Pictures' Dan Lin (This Side of the Truth, Sherlock Holmes), and Brian Witten (executive producer of Final Destination) are still attached to the project as producers.

Warner Bros. had acquired the rights to the series from previous rights-owner Vertigo Entertainment in 2009. At the time, screenwriter brothers Vlas and Charles Parlapanides were attached to the project.
