Media Factory is currently streaming the seventh and eighth episodes of the Overlord anime's Pure Pure Purea Desu chibi character anime shorts. The three-minute "Before the Fort" episode will stream until October 1, and the "Understanding and Confusion" episode will stream until October 8.

The comedy anime shorts feature super-deformed characters and air after the AT-X network's broadcast of each episode of the television anime. Media Factory is streaming new episodes of the anime shorts for two weeks starting on the Friday after each new episode of the television series airs. The Overlord television anime currently airs on AT-X on Tuesdays at 11:00 p.m.

The Overlord anime's main cast are reprising their roles for the anime shorts. Minoru Ashina (Kōkaku Kidōtai Nyumon Arise, Agriculture Angel Baraki) is producing, directing, and writing scripts for the shorts. Minoru Takehara (Agriculture Angel Baraki, Boku, Otaryman) is serving as the petite character designer and animation director. The Overlord television anime series premiered in Japan on July 7. The story takes place in the year 2138 when virtual reality gaming is booming. Yggdrasil, a popular online game, is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.
