Berry Goodman Performs Major 2nd Anime's New Opening Song

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
"Dreamcatcher" debuts in anime on July 7

The official website for the anime of Takuya Mitsuda's Major 2nd baseball manga revealed on Tuesday that Osaka-native three-member vocal unit Berry Goodman (Fox Spirit Matchmaker ending song) will perform the series' new opening theme song "Dreamcatcher." The song will debut in the show on July 7, and its single will ship on August 15.

This year's 28th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine also revealed the song on Wednesday, and the next issue will reveal the new ending theme song.

Kyūso Nekokami is performing the current opening theme song "Koete Ike" (Go Beyond It). Yuu Takahashi (Orange opening theme) is performing the current ending theme song.

The anime premiered on NHK E-TV on April 7. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs, and it describes the story:

Shigeno Daigo is an elementary school student whose father, Goro, is a professional baseball player. Inspired by his father, who was once a Major League player, Daigo started playing baseball with the Mifune Dolphins, a youth league team. He was unable to live up to the expectations of being the son of a professional, however, and quit baseball after less than a year. Then, in the spring of his sixth-grade year, Daigo's school welcomes a transfer student who's just returned from America. The transfer student is Sato Hikaru, and it turns out his father is Sato Toshiya, a former Major League player and Goro's close friend. The fate of these two young men begins to move forward!

Ayumu Watanabe (Doraemon films, Space Brothers, After the Rain) is directing the anime at NHK Enterprises. Michihiro Tsuchiya, Kenji Konuta, Mitsuyo Suenaga, and Kenichi Yamashita are penning the scripts. Kenichi Ohnuki (Gundam Build Fighters Try, Gurazeni, Golden Kamuy) is designing the characters. Kotaro Nakagawa (Code Geass, Cross Game) is composing the music.

Mitsuda launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in March 2015 as the first new installment in the manga series in five years. Shogakukan published the manga's 13th compiled book volume on March 16, and the 14th volume will ship on June 18. The sequel manga inspired an animated commercial in December 2015.
