The International Otaku Expo Association (IOEA) announced on Thursday that it is working with the Toshima ward of Tokyo to host the "Otaku Summit 2020" event on June 27-28, 2020 as an official Tokyo 2020 Programme event in association with the Tokyo Olympics.
The IOEA describes the event as "a place for international exchange through the Otaku culture, where people from around the world who love otaku culture and world event organizations can gather." The event will host exhibitions about otaku culture, academic conferences, and seminars. The event will take place in Ikebukuro at Sunshine City and the Toshima Residents Center.
The non-profit IOEA was formed in 2015 and describes itself as a "global association of expos and events where enthusiasts of the otaku culture may gather together." Organizers who belong to the event include Comic Market and Niconico Chokaigi in Japan, and Otakon and Sakura-Con in the United States.
A previous Otaku Summit was held in 2015.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will take place from July 24 through August 9, 2020.
