posted on by Andrew Osmond
The second Ghibliotheque book, to be published on October 13, will cover thirty anime films beyond Ghibli

A second book has been announced based upon the Ghibliotheque podcast. Although the podcast started by discussing the films of Studio Ghibli, this book, called The Ghibliotheque Guide to Anime: The Essential Guide to Japanese Animated Cinema, will cover thirty anime films beyond Studio Ghibli, including Akira, The Animatrix, Ghost in the Shell, your name., The Little Norse Prince, Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro, Redline and INTERSTELLA 5555.

Written by the podcast's co-hosts, Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham, the book will be published on October 13, as a hardcover and a Kindle book.

Amazon describes the book:

"The Ghibliotheque Guide to Anime gives an accessible beginner's tour to the wildly popular world of Japanese animated cinema, charting a path that takes in everything from titans of the industry like Akira, Ghost in the Shell and your name., to deeper cuts, hidden gems, and future classics that any newcomer to the artform must see...

"Each chapter focuses on one of the all-time greatest anime films, with director biographies, recommendations for further viewing and other trivia titbits supplementing the core reviews and breakdowns of each movie. Combined with vibrant film stills and lush posters and portraits, authors Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham reveal the story behind each film, why it's a must-see, and give readers a welcoming guide through the exciting world of anime."

It follows a previous book by Leader and Cunningham, Ghibliotheque: An Unofficial Guide to the Movies of Studio Ghibli, which covered the studio's feature films from Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind to Earwig and the Witch.

The episodes of the Ghibliotheque podcast are available here. As well as covering films by and related to Ghibli, the podcast has also covered the anime of Satoshi Kon and the films of the Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon.
