Mitsuteru Yokoyama's Kamen no Ninja Akakage Manga Gets Live-Action Series by Takashi Miike

EXILE/FANTASTICS' Taiki Satō stars in series premiering on October 26

TV Asahi opened a website on Saturday to announce a live-action series of the Kamen no Ninja Akakage manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama (Tetsujin 28-go, Giant Robo). Acclaimed genre director Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Crows Zero, Lesson of the Evil) is serving as the chief director, and EXILE/FANTASTICS member Taiki Satō (live-action Marmalade Boy, Rusted Armors) stars as the titular ninja Akakage.

The original manga follows a ninja as he fights alongside Aokage and other comrades against monsters and evil ninja clans.

Yūsuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, live-action Gantz, The Fable) is writing the scripts. The new series will premiere on October 26, and it is the second collaboration between TV Asahi and Toei, after spring 2024's With You I Bloom: The Shinsengumi Youth Chronicle. The staff promises the latest visual effects in a historical epic with grand-scale monster battles.

Yokoyama serialized the original manga from 1996 to 1967 in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. The manga previously inspired an earlier live-action tokusatsu (special-effects) period drama in 1967, a 1987-1988 anime series, and a 2001 live-action film (released by Media Blasters under the name Red Shadow: Akakage).
