Game Audio Network Guild Announces New Branch – Interactive Entertainment Sound Developers

GAME AUDIO NETWORK GUILD ANNOUNCES NEW BRANCH – INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT SOUND DEVELOPERS

New Professional Branch to Provide Resources and Events for Game Sound Designers

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA – MAY 16, 2007 – The Game Audio Network Guild (G.A.N.G.), a non-profit organization established to promote excellence in interactive audio, today announced a new professional branch of G.A.N.G. – Interactive Entertainment Sound Developers (I.E.S.D.). I.E.S.D. was formed to provide resources, events and discussion on issues that most affect professional game sound developers today. These issues often include integrating non-repetitive sound effects, studio and field recording techniques, real-time mixing, determining reasonable reference/listening levels, and tool file format standardization.

While many of IESD's information, events and networking opportunities will be valuable for students and apprentices, the branch's focus is specific and pertinent to game industry sound professionals. Potential G.A.N.G.: I.E.S.D. events might include advanced Foley and SFX simulation, studio and field recording techniques, and dialog implementation and management. The branch is already gathering resources for members on a variety of topics including comparing and contrasting game audio tools, recording best practices, and techniques for common game-focused audio scenarios.

“G.A.N.G. felt it was important to give a more prominent voice to professional game sound developers,” said Paul Lipson, President of G.A.N.G. “We have already accomplished an enormous amount in the industry for composers, and with I.E.S.D., we aim to get equivalent discussions and events in place.”

The co-chairs of G.A.N.G.: I.E.S.D are Scott Gershin, Executive Creative Director and Founder of Soundelux Design Music Group; Gene Semel, Audio Director, High Moon Studios; Dave Murrant, Director of Service Groups, Sony; and Scott Selfon, Senior Audio Specialist, Microsoft Game Technology Group. The co-chairs have laid the groundwork for the development of the group, but the actual people intended to drive I.E.S.D are its members. “We want this group to be about the things that matter to game sound designers, and the best way to do that is to give the power to the members to drive objectives,” said Scott Gershin, G.A.N.G Board Member and I.E.S.D. Co-Chair. “We want it to be self-sustaining and focused on the tools, technologies, techniques, and interests that I.E.S.D. members care most passionately about.”
