| May I Ask for One Final Thing? (TV) | Scarlett is the best thing about this show. I am entertained watching her beat up on douchebags. Unfortunately the rest of the show doesnt measure up. | |
| My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's (TV) | If it wasn't apparent by the title, this is a fantasy based isekai. Akira is summoned to the generic world #123 with his entire class. He is not the hero, but an overpowered assassin class, which he keeps under wraps because the king is sketchy. Akira has strong whiffs of Gary Stu. This story feels like fanfic written by a 12 year old. The romance with Amelia is laughably shallow, yet full of overwrought bullshit. She is happy she stabbed him in the stomach so he has a scar to remember her by. They profess their love for each other by cutting ring shapes on their fingers. Eye rolling. Watching this once a week made it just watchable enough that I didnt drop it (sunk cost?). | |
| Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! (TV) | Not really good | Watching this weekly has been a slog. Taking place in yet another generic fantasy world, Melphira likes eating monsters, which is considered weird. The she meets duke whatshisface who is ok with that and agrees to marry her. These characters are really one dimensional, which makes the "romance" not interesting in the slightest. The cooking aspect was more prominent in the first few episodes, but not a lot of detail was given so it too was uninteresting. The plot in the later episodes is basically Melphira travels to her new home with the duke and settles in. Yawn. Everything about this show was done better in other shows. Want monster cooking? Campfire Cooking has you covered. Fantasy shoujo romance? May I Ask? does it better. This is one of those grocery store background music type shows. I probably would have dropped ot if I had to watch it all at once. Once a week was enough. |

| Sword of the Demon Hunter (TV) | Decent | This is a serious in tone historical fantasy genre show taking place in the Edo period in which a stoic ronin with a tragic backstory goes around solving demon related issues and killing demons. The origin story is all laid out in episode one, which is a movie length deal. Teased at the end is a quick glimpse 170 years in the future, as it seems Jinya's oni powers have made him immortal. Part one (13 episodes) ended up being largely episodic, the villain from the first episode doesn't make an appearance (albeit brief) until the very end. I was really interested in seeing where this is going, but my hidive subscription is about to run out, and I am not about to pay for a whole streaming service for one show. (Part one Completed watching August 2025) A handful of episodes into part two sees another decade go by. It's the 1860's, the political situation is rapidly changing, and Jinya is still hunting demons and eating at the soba shop. Unfortunately this is where my subscription runs out. |
