Hey, I am looking for a manga in the shoujo/shounen-ai genre that is not "girly" but is about romance and has very angstful situations. Something along the lines of "Hot Gimmick" but not that title. Help please!

Marmalade Boy ... it's not quite as angsty as HG but it's plenty twisted and heart-wrenching. And not really all that girly.

Kill Me, Kiss Me fits these lines perfectly. It has some gang fights in it as well, oh and it's only the first volume that does the cross-dressing.

Flame of Recca. Most romantic manga I've come across, of course the romance is fairly stretched out, but really it has as much as something like Inuyasha or Ranma.

A few recommendations that haven't already been mentioned:
* Salad Days
* Mucha Kucha Daisuki
* Kimi Shika Iranai
* Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou

Wow all of show suggested are kinda "girly" except onegai and flame of recca. Hot Gimmick always seem kinda girly to me too with the pink cover and all. I say tuxedo gin has romance and is not so "girly", but it's more action and comedy.

Never judge a book by its cover. And besides, not all the covers are pink.
I'm going to suggest picking up Ayashi no Ceres/Ceres Celestical Legend by Yuu Watase. It has its girly moments, but it's full of dark angst, twists, and a nice amount of fights that more than make up for them.

I haven't read Hot Gimmick (although I plan to). But for good romance, I suggest Chobits and Fushigi Yugi.
For better romance, I suggest Gravitation (shonen-ai). It's also funny as hell.
But for EXCELLENT romance, filled with drama and angst, look no further than Mars. Almost every single popular manga/anime has been called "over-rated" by a vast number of fans. But I've never come across anyone who'd call Mars over-rated. It's jsut sooooooooo good.
You could also try Tramps Like Us... It's not traditional romance... But it bears a lot of similarities with Hot Gimmick. A girl finds a man stranded in the street and adopts him as a pet, and he's perfectly happy with it.

One thing that no one thinks about when romance is the subject is Berserk. The relationship between Guts and Caska is one of the most interesting I've ever seen. It develops perfectly too over the Golden Age saga (volumes 4-13). But it doesn't have what you would call a happy ending
But since you seem to be interested in shojo romance, the only one I read and enjoy is Kare Kano, so I would definitally recommend that.

If you are asking for ( shoujo + shanoun-ai ) in the same time then the only answer you'll find is For you in full blossom ( Hana kimi ) it is a story about a girl , Mizuki, who hids her identity as a girl to enter an all boys school all for the sake to meet her beloved athlits Sano Izumi .
I'm sure you'll find it enteresting , It is licenced by Viz so be sure to get your copy now !! ^__^ ( though Viz are so slow when it comes to releases )
