A couple months ago at my local borders comics totally outnumbered manga. Manga only possed a couple of shelves and 5 full cabinets(thing with a couple(9) of shelves). And now it is totally the opposite. The comics now only have a couple of shelves and the manga has the rest and more. I was wondering if this is just a local thing or if this has happend in other places.
[EDIT - C'mon folks, read over your post to check and see if you spelled everything correctly before submitting. -C]

Well, I've noticed at my Barnes and Noble (a megastore, mind you) 3 out of the 4 cabinets (8 ft high) are completely filled with mangas, while the fourth is all the rest of the comics.
Waldenbooks near me doesn't even have a graphic novel section anymore. It's all mangas.

I think they were refering to their local Barnes & Noble being a megastore, bigger than the average B&N (unless I read that wrong too)
Yea the same trend is happening near me. Now Border's has a whole aisle, both sides, devoted to manga, and the selection and B&N is bigger everytime I'm in there. In a way this is smart because a B&N and a Borders the next town over totally monopolize the manga in my area. Besides the internet, you have to go to one of those stores witout going over the bridge (and even the places over there don't have as much as the local places).
Really the only places with a bigger selection for me are convention dealer's rooms and the super big bookstores in Boston.

I'm happy this is happening. along time ago I could only find certain mangas. Now my local book stores have everything I look for. (most of the time might sell out) Do you think this overtaking is because they have had a boost in sales of manga?

Yea, I meant that the one near me is a megastore, compared to the regular sized barnes and noble. Should I have just said it was a supersized version, and gotten rid of any confusion?

I have been to 8 bookstores in and around my city, and in each one the manga section is signifigantly bigger than the comicbook section, and has been in most of them for quite awhile.

the borders express (i'm guessing its a smaller version of borders) at my mall has newly released manga front and center in the store and then you head to the back and there is about 25 shelves of manga. And they have at least 3 copies of each volume. then they have a few anime posters and wall scrolls for sale next to the manga. B&N has an impressive collection as well, but not as "out-there" as Borders express is.

Depending upon where I go locally there is either a fair amount, or an insane amount. At the local Barnes & Nobles (average size) there are two bookcases (front only) worth, including more the graphic novels. At Borders (two story mega store) there is a small section for manga that is now up to 6 bookcases worth (short bookcases). Finely at a very small Waldenbooks in the mall (hole in the wall shop) they have two eight foot bookcases full of manga, which is an insane amount when you consider the size of the store.
