From the link on the main page to AoD, for this new Robotech series, the description given sounds a little like whats going on in Macross 7, however I really don't know how you would fit Macross 7 into Robotech.

However this being ADV, I can see them doing something like that.

Sure it isn't Macross Zero that it's talking about?

You sure haven't been keeping track of whats going on. Macross Zero is a prequal to the events that occur in Macross SDF. It is based in 1999, so therefore that wouldn't work.

Eh, never liked Macross much anyway, so there is my reason to not follow it. Oh well

Robotech's next serie is called Robotech: ShadowForce and is supposed to tell the story of the fleet sent to the 'rescue' of Admiral Hunter's SDF-3

If you're member of Robotech.com forum you can read their official announcement there (in clicking on the 'coming soon' link...), otherwise just tell me and I'll do a copy-paste of the info in this topic if it's not a problem with ANN rules Cool

Macross isn't Robotech. Sure, there are borrowed ideas, and the same Animation for the first 36 episodes, but they both have their own characters, timelines, and development. Hopefully Carl Macek is involved in the production of this new series, as it was his work to begin with. I highly doubt they will be adapting a pre-existing Japanese Cartoon for this though.

Kind of a stretch though. I think it would only be partly his work. I never watched Robotech though.

Well, Harmony Gold does own it, but it was Macek who pretty much wrote all three seasons, and combined the three originally un-related shows into one, 75 episode series.

That and the fact that the 3 unrelated series (Macross,SouthernCross and Genesis climber Mospeda) didn't fare too well in Japan. But Macek acquired the 3 series and added a whole new story arc that tied said series into one epic Anime. I personally think Robotech, along with Star Blazers have contributed alot of interest in Anime. (within America.)
These shows weren't kiddified as compared to the Majority of American Saturday morning/Syndicated cartoons.

Out of the three Japanese series, Macross was the most sucessful but it still didn't achieve the popularity status like say; Gundam.IIRC (Despite movie and OVA spinoffs.) Correct me if i'm wrong. The aformentioned info is based from a old Robotech Sourcebook. (Circa 1987)

I'd say Macross did very well. Of course it didn't hit Gundam status, but that's a given because Gundam is somewhat "revolutionary". But being extended from 27 to 36 episodes, having numerous spin-off series, a popular still-running range of merchandise, OAVs and what not would still count as very successful.

HG acquired the shows, and tied it in with the attempt to market the model kits here.

The difference between Robotech and StarBlazers is that at least StarBlazers butchered the least way possible. Even the music was intact which was rare at the time.

I used the term "acquired' loosely, my bad. but as for "butchering" the original material, i digress because i feel that Robotech is better than the orginal Japanese HG/Tatsunoko series. Wether it's the Multi-generational storyline, dialogue and especially the music. and yes i happen own the original Macross and Mospeda. For the most part, i don't agree with American bastardizations of Anime shows and such, but with the exception of Robotech, Macek deserves his props. However what was on his mind when he bought crap like Crimson Wolf over to the states?
