Okay, I know someone will say "you're using Internet Explorer and that's your problem, [insert name of other web browser] is better!"

My answer to that is: I like IE. So I'd like to keep logging in to ANN using IE.

Which brings me to my problem. When I try to log in to ANN, I type in my info and click the button to log in and. . . nothing. The button doesn't seem to work for me. I don't know if it's an odd glitch on my end or what. It works if I use a different browser but not when I use IE.

Version of IE being used: 8.0.7600.16385 (Yes, I know that's an older version but due to a problem with my computer, I can't use a newer one right now.)

I wasn't having any problem until just recently. Last night I tried to log in to add something to the encyclopedia and I got nowhere using IE so I switched to Mozilla and it worked fine.

Just wanted to bring the issue to those wiser than I on technical issues. I'd like to continue accessing ANN through IE for various personal preference reasons and I just want to know how to achieve that.

Well Richard J, I know you probably heard this already, but IE in particular has in itself. IE 8 is notorious for them.

However, if I can, I'd like to help you. Here is what I think might* work. *This may or may not work.

Solution 1: Have you thought of updating your Internet Exploer? IE 9 came out not to long ago and several weeks have gone by since it first premiered on the net and I heard the giant issues might hav been worked out. This may or may not solve the issue, but it's worth a shot.

Solution 2: Clear your cookies on your internet browser. This has worked for me in the past and should rectify minor issues.

Solution 3: Have you tried going on ANN at another time? There is a chance ANN's server might have been busy at that time and might have simply been a one time incident. That happened to me last week and was fixed after I refreshed the page I was in.

Solution 4: Have you thought of downloading the latest Firefox (which is 4.0 as of 4/13/2011)? I've had more issues than I can count with Internet Explorer, but had almost none with Firefox. Also, by Firefox, you can see if it's a problem with IE or just a minor glitch with ANN.

Now I know there is likely plenty more solutions, but 4 seems like a good number to me. By the way, I am not saying IE is bad or anything, but I've had so many issues with IE in general, some of them being quite irksome.

But if all else fails, maybe Dan might be able to help you out.

If you're using the login box on the front page have you tried using the forum login instead? animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/login.php

It sometimes helps to clear your ANN cookies - you can do this at animenewsnetwork.com/meta/clear-cookies.php

Working now! Thank you Shiroi Hane! (Why the heck didn't I think to try the forum login box? I feel like an idiot.Embarassed )

@ Teriyaki Terrier: Like I mentioned in OP, I can't update IE right now. Basically my last hard drive went partially bad. (Just the part where the boot files were died!) So the guy that does my computer repairs put in a semi-new one and set it as the main drive.

So far so good.

Well, he also upped my OS to Win 7. Again, not a bad thing. Only problem is he uses bootleg software a lot so if I upgrade to IE 9, it will probably trigger a "windows not genuine" headache. (I've already dealt with that once before, I am not doing that again.)

I'm actually going to buy a proper OS upgrade kit this summer but until then, I'm trying to avoid any upgrades that might trigger the curse of Bill Gates.

On using another browser: Seriously, I just like IE best. I've had more headaches with the others. My computer just works better with IE. (Well, at least when I don't have to worry about the curse of Bill Gates.)

For the record, I've tested this with IE 8 and had no problem. So your problem was probably not due to IE 8 itself but some other mysterious factor.
