According to AoD:
| Quote: | | Gantz Update (06:21 PM EDT): According to the latest Diamond Previews update and confirmed by ADV Films in the forums, the 7th volume of Gantz has had a price increase to $29.98 and a disc+box edition is slated for $39.98. We've been told that there are four episodes to this volume which by all speculation is leading people to believe that the second season of the show is being released as a standard 4 volume release unlike the first season which was done as two episodes per volume across six volumes, with the last volume gaining one additional episode to complete the first season. |

So does this basically mean that Gantz will be a 10-DVD release and not 13 as originally scheduled?

Well, since DVD 1-5 were 2 episodes each, and DVD 6 is 3 episodes (this finishes the 13 episode 1st season), then DVD 7, 8, and 9 will be 4 episodes, and 10 will be 5 episodes, so yes, GANTZ will be 10 DVD's.
They way I see it was apparently despite high sales of the first couple of volumes because people saw the cheaper price, but then realized that they would be spending the same amount over the rest of the series, people must have pressured ADV to sell it in the more normal format of 4/5 episodes per DVD

ADV is really doing a disservice to the fans. If they kept it on 2 DVD and release the second half on 6 dvd like the first half, you would pay less. Now you're paying 30 dollar for 3 episode which makes the release worst than it was before..
The second half is 13 episode on 4 DVD at full price. Just horrible tactics for a 26 episode series. This would have worked better on Elfen Lied.

Well, $29.99 is a MSRP, which almost no retailer actually sells it at that price (Except for Suncoast and Media Play).
Most retailers range in selling it from $19.99 to $14.95. BestBuy sells most ADV releases for $19.99. DeepDiscountDVD sells them for around $17.99. AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service) sells them for $14.95-$17.95.
BestBuy sold Gantz for $11.95 and AAFES sold it for $15.95, and DeepDiscountDVD sold it for about $12.95.

ADV's original plans would've ended up costing people more, and at a slower pace. Regardless, the steps that ADV have taken in regards to this series is total crap, given the series itself is utterly horrible, they're really not done themselves a great justice.

Let's see, BestBuy sold Gantz at $11.99 a DVD, and at 13 DVD's, this would be $155.87. At 8 DVD's for $19.99 (What BestBuy sells ADV titles for), this would be $159.92, just $4.05 extra.
Currently, at 6 DVDs for $11.99 and 4 at $19.99, this would be a total of $151.90, and this would be $3.97 cheaper, than releasing it on 13 DVD's and $8.02 cheaper than selling on 8 DVD's.

You got it the other way around buddy. The only place that sell it for a lower price is best buy or maybe Wal-Mart. Places like Fry's, EB (when they use to sell it), Target (when they carried it) FYE, Suncoast, Media Play and pretty much any other place that carry anime use the MSRP. Occasionally there's sale, but pretty much everything else in the store is full price. This affect the b&m buyer becaues if u buy anything online, you're bound to find a discount. Either way, when you use to play 9 dollar an episode (18 dollar), now you're paying 12 dollar for an additional episode.
Either way, ADV like to take advantage of fans. I hate to support them when Bandai and Media Blaster have most of their 26 episode series on 6 DVD only. Wolf's rain had 7 DVD, but that's because it had 30 episode and the 4 recollection episode were sold at reduce priced.

Yeah, but you don't seem to realise that the gonzo standard release pattern from ADV, or infact anyone else is 7 discs per 26 episode series (Last Exile, FMP!, GadGuard, FF:U. Smaller series dont count, Gravion/Gravion:zwei are two seperate, lower priority properties, and Chrono Crusade is a 52 episode series, not 2 26 seasons, regardless of what ADV markets it as). Also, using discount prices from a chain that not everyone buys from isn't exactly the best idea. The only real way to figure this out, is through actual RRP, where online/whatever discounts come into play LATER.
13 x 17.99 = 233.97 ($20 extra for 2 artboxes)
7 x 29.99 = 209.93 ($10 for one artbox, assuming a Gravion type situation never occoured)
6 x 17.99 + 4 x 29.99 = 227.90 ($20 extra for 2 artboxes)
Given a true 8 disc release (two 4's, six 3's) from ADV hasn't happened in a while, nor on a Gonzo title outside of say, Kiddy Grade, we come to the conclusion that Gantz would've been cheaper and QUICKER (assuming the 6 week schedule had been stuck to) to release via a 7 disc series. Instead all they've done is extended the release time, kept an increased price, and whatever else. It's not a good release, and you have to remember to add your 42.3% whatever discount AFTER you realise how much it costs on retail, because whatever money you're losing on there ultimatly means money you're losing even AFTER discounts.
Good thing I dont like Gantz, or many of the other shitty series ADV seem to be putting out but I won't really sit by and let people think that this is a good release pattern.

I thought Chrono Crusade was only 24 episodes. It even says that on the Encyclopedia page for Chrono Crusade.
Where did you get your info from?
And I stated those prices based on what I saw when I bought other titles from those places.
Oh, and this is my 1000th post.

I was under the impression that it was a 52 episode series, no idea why though. In any case, 24 episodes is in a different feild to 26, so it still sort of counts.
Regardless, though, based on what you bought them from, when you bought them and the position of the moon doesn't disregard the fact that this entire release is more of a ripoff than your standard 7-disc release.

You might be thinking of Kaleido Star instead of Chrono Crusade there.
