Is that "COntinues" suppose to be "Continues," or am I missing some sort of cleverly schemed acronym
 ?
As for the article itself, that's pretty neat that manga would dominate as the top sellers. But then again, my knowledge of non-manga graphic novels is pretty low. |

It's really no big suprise, as manga has dominated for much of the last three years. Most comicbook fans (myself included) buy trades at comicbook stores, but it's undeniable that manga is far more popular. The only time an American GN sells really well in bookstores is when it has mainstream appeal, such as Star Wars, Sin City or The Sandman.

The market is maturing nicely and there's been almost no sign of deflation or crash due to an overload of niche works. Most are either performing at sales expectations or quietly folding without dragging overall sales down. There's a growing diversity of titles coming down the pipe and retailers continue to expand their stock. The growing exceptance across traditional boundaries (the rise of "shojo" titles) is making the market more appealing to more people.
My only worry at the moment is the continued shared space the market is stocked in. No retailers that I know of have started sub-categorizing manga based on age warnings or story types. This makes it difficult for parents to control exposure to inappropriate material and may sour their feelings towards publishers and retailers. |

Most English manga have little age ratings on them, so parents can't really blame anyone else if they don't check the ratings (but they still will anyway). After all, would they let their kid rent any movie in a video store without checking the rating first?
