I'm new to this series.
Can anyone give all the info on this series. WHich dvd is the best edition? Are the films themselves good? All Help would be grateful. Thanks Alot. |

I was spellbound by this series when I was new to anime; it seemed like a brilliant nihilistic parody of religious apocalyptic though. I rewatched it recently and was much less impressed. Watching it is sort of a rite of passage for many anime fans who like the sick stuff, but is it really any good? There's plenty better. Once you get past the OMG WTF factor it's mostly just a cruddy action anime. And it really is adults only. It's kind of interesting in a "What were they thinking?" way, but don't drop full retail prices on the boxed set sight unseen.

except for the vulgar intimacy it contains you could say it is very good. however if you really like these things you should really just keep it to downloading your favorite hentais

Arguably the "vulgar intimacy" is partly WHY the movies are so well received. At the time it really pushed the creative envelope. And the animation is quite beautiful, likewise with the character designs.
Please note if you are not 21 years or older don't watch this and/or buy it. There are far too many graphic and adult scenes. If you live with your family, never let them see you watching this. I mean it, they will be repulsed and consider sending you to a doctor. People can and will be disgusted by the contents, so be aware of where you view it and whom you share it with. |

besides the afore mentioned vulgar intimacy, as far I can remember there are some elements of social critic in the first OVA series. I remember the second episode, wich features a critic about the social relations in a school (the explotation of nerds and weaklings and such).
I also have to agree with the other coments about the quality of the animation that (at least in the first series) is quite good. And features some interesting action scenes (I enyoed a lot the showdown that Amano has in ep 2, just to mention one). |

Not to kill it, but when I first heard of the reverance people gave the series I thought it was something on par with Akira or something. After retrospect, it was really wasn't well dubbed and every form of hentai was thrown in. I mean it had its moments but really, I'm not sure how diiferent it is from something like Twin Angels or [i]La Blue Girl[/b] except there was a lot more shock value in Urotsukidoji.
