Hello Kitty Asuka's little doll made me laugh. Because as everyone who has seen the series knows, the part with the baby doll was super cutesy-poo there too.

Shikinami, not Soryu. Asuka seems to have a totally different relationship with that doll in Rebuild.

*must resist laughing* Anime hyper

Two of the biggest cash-cows have finally merged (and one of them isn't Pokemon) isn't shocking to me. But now I want a Hello Kitty Rei plushie, dang it. >__>

Edit: Now that I think about, who's the target audience?

Anyone can like Hello Kitty (I'm more of a Chococat myself) but I doubt many preschool to middle school girls in Japan watched Evangelion. :/

My mother loves, loves Hello Kitty, and know nothing of Evangelion. If/When I give her any of this stuff as a gift, that's how it will remain - mostly for the lols.

As far as Japan goes, it's not uncommon at all to see Evangelion advertised along with toys, candy, clothes... you wouldn't know they're advertising for a show such as, well, Evangelion.

Yeah, I'm aware of the merchandising kingdom that is Evangelion. (Ramen, anyone?)
I asked mainly because fans will understand why Hello Kitty Asuka is holding a doll and I thought it would be "awkward" if other people asked why. Just curious that's all~
