Feh, you guys got me too damn curious. So here's the list I got after some manual searching of anime section. It doesn't account for length of an episode, though. And, also, I doubt this is really that accurate, but at least it's a better starting point...

Top 10 Anime, by total episodes, including sequels:
1. Doraemon [Doraemon, Doraemon - 1979] (2000+, continuing)
2. Sazae-san (1700+, continuing) Also, regularly the #1 rated anime with ~18-22% rating each week.
3. Manga Nihon Mukashi Banashi [Manga Nihon Mukashi Banashi (TV '75), Manga Nihon Mukashi Banashi (TV '76)] (1465, done)
4. Hoka Hoka Kazoku (1428, done)
5. Ninja Hattori-kun (694, done) until someone convinces me otherwise
6. Nintama Rantarou (680+, continuing?)
7. Dragonball [Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT] (508, done)
8. Ojarumaru (450, done?)
9. Pokemon [Pokemon, Pokemon Advance] (426+, continuing)
10. Detective Conan (423+, continuing)
Crayon-Shinchan (400+, continuing)
Kiteretsu Daihyakka (331, done)

Top 10 Anime, single series by total episodes:
1. Doraemon - 1979 (2000+, continuing)
2. Sazae-san (1700+, continuing)
3. Manga Nihon Mukashi Banashi (TV '76) (1453, done)
4. Hoka Hoka Kazoku (1428, done)
5. Ninja Hattori-kun (694, done)
6. Nintama Rantarou (680+, continuing?)
7. Ojarumaru (450, done?)
8. Detective Conan (423+, continuing)
9. Crayon-Shinchan (400+, continuing)
10. Kiteretsu Daihyakka (331, done)
Manga Hajimete Monogatari (308, done)
Ikkyu-san (296, done)

Top 10 Anime, single series by vintage
1. Sazae-san (13,194 days, continuing)
2. Doraemon - 1979 (9,728 days, continuing)
3. Manga Nihon Mukashi Banashi (TV '76)] (6,819 days, done)
4. Crayon-Shinchan (4,968 days, continuing)
5. Detective Conan (3,603 days, continuing)
6. Kiteretsu Daihyakka (2,997 days, done)
7. Dragonball Z (2,479 days, done)
8. Ikkyu-san (2,449 days, done)
9. Ninja Hattori-kun (2,280 days, done)
10. One Piece (2,222, continuing)
? Ojarumaru (no end date (<2,602), done?)
Manga Hajimete Monogatari (2,157 days, done)

Other (The database didn't give me a clear enough picture to put these in the sections above.)
:
Chibi Maruko-chan TV 2 (~484, 3,968 days, continuing) ...if it's still continuing. I know a Chibi Maruko-chan is still getting high ratings. If it's reruns (I'd assume it isn't), new material or a new show, I do not know.
Kochikame (~460, 3,443 days ,continuing) Is this still running?

I believe counts that have Doraemon above Sazae-san are listing segments as "episodes", while, as I said before, Sazae-san is longer in terms of total half-hours.

I understand that, however, I can not count it by half-hours or half those shows would be lower.

How many segments and episode? 2? 3? (how do I cut the number I have, basically)
Does each segment have it's own title screen?
Most importantly: How does the studio count it?

Until I know that, I can't really list it any show differently, from what I do know. And, for Doraemon, I have...

Doraemon entry comment wrote:
Doraemon is one of the longest running TV series in Japan, while Sazae-san has been running longer, there are more episodes of Doraemon. While the original 1973 series was not very well received and fizzled after only 27 episodes, the 1979 series still runs today, with over 2000 episodes (total) to date.

Well there used to be another anime database where I got my information from, I just can't find it anymore.

I remember the gist of what it said was that the episode count of Doraemon is derived from the total number of the 15-minute segments, while Sazae-san had around 1800 half-hours (at the time).

And, the manga list. It's likely less accurate than the anime list, due to the lower amount of information and titles in database.

Even so, there are plenty shows which have 2 episodes in a single half-hour block but are they are still counted as 2 episodes, not 1. For example, Ichigo 100% (which is now wrong Mad ), has 24, 12 minute episodes. In reality it was only 12 half-hour episodes, but the studio claims it's 24 episodes long. I don't agree with it myself (studio padding it's title), but how can I argue against it? There were 24 episode titles in the show...

Actually, Jojo is still in continuation and volume 85 came out just this August.

For Hajime no Ippo, volume 74 comes out next month.

Inu-Yasha is still continuing, with chapter 434 (mid-way through volume 44) the most recently released chapter in Shonen Sunday.

Volume 43 comes out December 15. And it should probably be noted that Rumiko Takahashi recently stated that it may go as long as 500 chapters before it ends.

Are you refering to Steel Ball Run? Which seems like it would put it at 86 volumes now.

That's fine it's only a month or so away. The chapters have likely been in Shonen Magazine, so they already exist, anyway.

I must have gotten the anime ending mixed up with the manga. Anime smile + sweatdrop I'll fix it now.

I haven't read too much of Steel Ball Run yet, but in a way, it's still somewhat part of the original Jojo story arc according to my friends who are hardcore Jojo fans and know more about it.

As for HnI, I'm pretty sure there is enough material to make up to volume 76.

Yeah, it sounds like a spinoff, like it's listed. I'm not counting spinoffs, since they tend to change the main characters. I realize Jojo changes main characters often, but this time the creator decided to change the title (there is no Jojo on the Steel Ball Run books), drop the Jojo naming theme, and go back in time. Three things that are inconsistant with the Jojo books. It may be related (spinoffs usually are) but it really sounds like it's different...to me, anyway.

There is a Jojo character, Johnny Joestar, and many features such as stands and the hamon are present in this one as well. The Steel Ball Run story arc is a "spin off" but still created from the last story arc, Stone Ocean, which in some ways still has a connection to the original Jojo universe. I know the Stone Ocean story arc manga also has some of the same treatment that Steel Ball Run has right now.
