You can certainly tell this is the new series from the Strike Witches creator. I love the character designs too, probably my favorite of the Winter season. Can't wait!

It's not a Hot Pants Operation promo without showing that one scene (which happened at the end!) or some butts which happened in the beginning.
So looking forward to the show this winter. It should be a fun watch. |

Moe Ass Operatio--- err, I mean, Vividred looks pretty good so far. Wish the previews were a bit more substantial, but whatever. Character designs are cute, color palette is nice and bright, and the animation looks solid. Count me cautiously optimistic.

Yeah, basically it's pretty much garbage. Which is why Father Jack's quote of "How did this gobshyte get on the television" seems quite apt. |

I wonder why they even bothered to have any sort of sci-fi involved in it. Just make an anime with a blank background, and focus on what you want to sell to your audience.

Because as humorous as it would be to speculate that this would undoubtedly work without question – it doesn't. Otherwise every crappy cheesecake anime, or one with cute girls would be selling 20k units every single season. Following sales and discussion, it rarely works ever works like that. Girls und Panzer being projected to sell upwards of 15k volumes actually does come as a big surprise, especially after Upotte crashed and burned below 2k. You still need multiple elements to produce a successful show. If the anime producers could get away with making the bare minimum, and be consistently and handsomely rewarded for their work, the state of anime would be dire. |

I don't really get where people get this idea that fanservice = instant sales. Most fanservice anime sells badly, and the best selling cute girl stuff typically has very limited fanservice.

They don't just buy whatever fanservice show comes out regardless of quality... as tough as it is for some people to understand, otaku actually DO have standards. |

It's not that I think many otaku don't have standards at all. It's just that much of their definition of standards as you describe it (and how you keep describing every other thread as if somehow no one gets it) don't really apply with me. And even if they did use to apply with me, they don't anymore. |
