If I am permitted to make a suggestion, can I suggest you make a sticky that gives people examples or what anime to watch next. Everyday I see posts on here like "Oh yea I just finished Love Hina (example) and I am looking for something similar. It would be good if you could make a sticky that would be like "If you like horror anime check out......." and then make a list of animes that would be liked by watchers of the horror genre and you could do this with every genre whether it be comedy or romance etc. This would get rid of all those posts. Anyways, it's just a suggestion.

That's different from my idea though. That's giving them sites and such on where to go. People might be lazy and that's why there not bothering to look at those sites/links. "Seems like hard work. It would be easier just to ask someone." If we just give them a list it would be way easier and more accessible. "I liked Naruto, I wonder what else is along the lines of Naruto...(scans thread)....Oh, One Piece....sounds cool....I like pirates.." I think it would be easier my way.

I think I read that's on ANN "To Do" list: listing things by genre. I could be wrong. |

If people are lazy, that's their problem, not mine. The people who know about a lot of anime and can give recommendations on virtually anything had to learn somehow, right? To corrupt a Chinese saying: "Give a newb an anime to watch, and he'll be entertained for 650 minutes. Teach him how to search for his own anime, and he'll be entertained for a lifetime." With this in mind, I contributed a fair amount to the sticky that PantsGoblin linked to. While I don't mind helping out once in awhile, it's tiring to give detailed non-list responses to all the posts from people who think, "I don't know what to watch and I don't want to do any searching, so I'll just ask people on a forum." I'll just have to cut corners by copying and pasting from My Anime. |

It's not just about lazyness, it also depends on our internet connection. I just have dial-up because nothing else is available in the little town I live in. Most anime sites I've been to, the official ones from the distributor, are in flash and require a decent connection to surf. Most links that are posted on ANN I can't even check out because the page takes forever to load. The Anime Wallpaper post I hated because I was interested in the subject, yet had to wait 10 minutes for my cpu to upload some of the bigger pictures.
Is it lazy to not want to wait 10 minutes for a page to load when you know there are other posts or websites you can be checking out? I really hate reccomendation threads because the same show gets recommended in every damn posts but if I ever need info on a show, I know where to ask. |

I have already taken that into account when I made that thread. I didn't expect some of the sites to be removed so I'm currently looking for other sites but the ones listed are currently the best there is (that I know of).
If you read the 7th paragraph, you'll see this:
Clicking on that link will give you a website. From there, there is a search option that says, "Search by title". I typed in "Love Hina" and here's what I got:
I clicked "Love Hina" and here's what I got: So you like Love Hina? Other Anime-Planet members think you'd also like these 44 titles: Do I need to be any more thorough? Edit: I also suggest you check this thread. Scroll half a page down and you get several recommendations categorized by every genre imaginable. |

No, I don't consider this laziness...if there's a connection issue that makes these other sites inconvenient, that's understandable. However, I've still seen numerous posts where it's pretty obvious that people don't want to do the work themselves, and if they have a reasonable Internet connection, there's not much excuse. |

Violence gets Elfen Lied or Gantz. Comedy gets Excel Saga or Mahoramatic. Action gets Eva. Romance gets Love Hina. Terrible dubs gets One PPiece or Naruto. |

Thats pretty much accurate. You forgot that for Violence, people also always say Berserk, then later a post appears saying; "I've been looking for season 2, does anyone know where I can get it? Or is it currently being made?".... I still don't understand how a sticky becomes a sticky. At first I thought they were just rules and announcements or topics that get brought up too many times, then I saw Pantsgoblin's Moe Tournament... and I was left clueless once again. |

Mods and editors have a different set of options when creating or editing posts. They allow us to post the topic as either Normal, Sticky, or Announcment. As for this thread, I'm going to wait a little bit and see what kind of feedback pops up. Currently, I'm leaning towards not stickying. The thread Azathrael made is good enough. Having two "anime search" threads stickied at the top would only complicate things. |

The best recommendation I can give is to add "(to find recommendations)" to the Azathrael's already existing sticky post.
Any noob who sees the subject as it is now probably thinks, "there gonna tell me where to go buy anime..." and skip to the first "Naruto rocks!" post... EDIT: I see it has been changed now. Hopefully it will help! Last edited by -gecko- on Sat Mar 25, 2006 5:30 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I changed it to be a little more specific, though it probably won't make too much of a difference. |

There's really no need to have two stickies for the same subject now, is there? |

Isn't there a way to turn off images in the internet options? It saves page-downloading time, and I'd think it would help (but I've never done it before). As for the suggestion, I don't think there's a need for such a sticky. The people that usually make the "I need another anime like Monster to watch! Stat!" threads are one-time posters who don't care about the rules or read anything, including the stickies, but the new thread they just made. Most just don't even think that someone else could have made such a post before--lazy thinking, imo. I give the idea a thumbs down. I don't think the forums are made for straight-out anime suggestion threads. It's not really a FAQ board. |
