Does anyone think anime will ever become extinct? I mean like, the old books that we used to read, like Little Women, ever think anime one day will be like that? I don't know why that would happen, maybe, because we might get more improved ones...anyone ever question that?

No of course not. Anime while disregarding all of my personal preferences, can simply fade out. Thats the equivalent of saying that I think that animation is just gonna slip out of society. Impossible, not with Disney channel and Cartoon Network on the airwaves. Now anime by raw definition is animation from japan so what you are suggesting is that the Japanese will completely stop producing animation in the country. I highly doubt that, not with the advances of Miyasaki, the guy that made Astro Boy, the entire hustle of Funamation, VIZ, and 4kids. Anime is here to stay.

I think, in the distant future, 2D anime will become "extinct." with technology constantly advancing (and Disney firing everyone in their 2D animation department and all) I think run-of-the-mill anime may eventually eventually evolve into stuff like Final Fantasy: Advent Children.

2D animation has it's own good and bads. I'd rather watch 2D animation than 3D animation, simple as that.

As for anime as a whole going extinct, it's not going to happen unless Japan gets nuked again. Kids are always into animated stuff, so no matter what, animation will stay. Since anime is just Japanese animation, there's no reason for them to go away.

THis reminds me of the whole 2D vs. 3D fighter video game discussion.

I hope and don't believe it will ever go extinct, kind of like music has different styles and those never go instinct as long as they have some kind of fan base, no matter how small it is.

That's like asking if games are going to become extinct. My answer is no, but like is mentioned above, there may be more computer animated that replace animation. There's only so much that hand drawn animation can do, and computer animation can go past the boundaries of hand drawn. Anime won't become extinct unless something happens to Japan also mentioned above.

Anime might possibly combine 2-D and 3-D like Karas. I think Tatsunoko did a great job visually. (I saw it last year, but I remember being amazed.)

I'd hardly call Little Women "extinct." And I don't think anime will become extinct; mainly because it's a medium much like books, the stories themselves may fade off into some type of obscurity, but new stories will pop up in the anime form to replace them.

QFT. Making it 3D will make it too realistic and kill the cartoon aspect that a lot of people (or atleast myself) enjoy from animes.

"Everything that has a beginning has an end."

That was the tag line for The Matrix Revolutions. It just happens to be the truth.

In the case of anime, that tag line holds true. There was a time anime did not exist, and such a time will come again.

Whether any of us will be around for that day, however, is another matter altogether.

Will anime cease to exist some day? Yes. Will we be there then? Not likely-- possible, but not probable.

I don't think anime will ever become "exctint" but I do think that the definition of what anime is will evolve into something different over time. Anime used to be defined by the Japanese as referring to all forms of animation but since then the term has evolved to refer more specifically to Japanese animation. As anime starts to become more popular in the U.S., I believe more American animation studios will start collaberating with the Japanese studios to produce different series and maybe even movies. I can honestly see Disney collaberating with Studio Ghibli to produce an anime-style movie in the future one day if anime ever becomes accepted enough among the general public. We're already seeing a growing number of "pseudo" American anime series and OEL manga in recent years and as what defines Japanese animation continues to become blurred, the definition of what anime is may evolve to mean more of a certain artistic style than a certain race's form of animation, so anime might not go "exctcint" in that it'll completely disappear, but I do think the definition of what anime is will change into something else in the future. I hope what I said makes some sort of sense.

As far as feature length films go,2D animation is pretty much extinct here in the US.Not only due to the amazing success of 3D animated movies in the past, but also because the last two big budget 2D animated films bombed horribly.(Dreamworks' Sinbad and Disney's Treasure Planet) So studios are very cautious when it comes to producing a 2D animated film.

My problem will all of these 3D animated films is that most of them are very overrated by the critics.Take Finding Nemo for example.Finding Nemo was one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2003.Some critics even suggested that the Academy not only consider it for Best Animated Picture, but for the Best Picture nod as well. But if Finding Nemo wasn't 3D animated, and instead utilized Disney's traditional 2D animation, would it have gotten the same amount of praise? I think not.Break it down even more, and Finding Nemo is about talking animals (which Disney has done for years) with some inside jokes aimed at older audiences and jam packed with pop culture references.

And that's another part of the problem.EVERY 3D animated movie is now using that exact same formula. That's why we have stuff like Madagascar,Robots,Chicken Little, and the crappy looking Hoodwinked. And most critics will keep on saying the same thing,"Fun for the kids, and enough jokes/references for parents."

The last innovative 3D animated movie was Pixar's Incerdibles.Which was at heart a light hearted action movie that happened to be 3D animated.

It will change, it will inevitably change, and will likely do so to the point that it would no longer truly resemble what we consider anime now. Art is an ever changing, ever evolving thing, and especially with visual arts in the past styles and aspects of them tend to change and they do so relatively quickly. As fast as something can come, it can disappear just as fast, trends and culture and changes in the medium come and they tend to come faster and faster these days. You simply never know, it will likely be sometime before it's a possibility, but it will undoubtedly happen.

Anime will not staying old and they will release new features of anime. I guess on 2010 and next years, anime will become more futuristic and you can it see it real and can communicate with them by visual machine.
It is different when ur reading an folktale books than watching anime. Very Happy
