I thought I might pose a question to everyone. From the pages of the most bloated and overexposed manga magazine out there, is there any manga from Jump that you feel is underrated (if that's even possible)?!
I guess I'm asking this because I do feel there is a severely underappreciated manga title out there, namely Eyeshield 21. I don't think it's getting the exposure it deserves compared to the other Jump stuff out here, in America and in Japan (I would guess). As usual, I'm terrible at the waiting game so I plunged myself into Eyeshield 21's world of football so unrealistic, it borders on the theatrical. I discovered hillarious facts such as the person with the most athletic body on the Devilbats team happens to be the kicker, but in the end after a 180 chapters I've come out howling in laughter as well as dreaming sweet dreams of going to the Christmas Bowl. Eyeshield 21 is one the VERY few manga titles that have made me laugh out loud. One of the more subtle things that you can catch by reading Eyeshield 21 is that Sena is neither the main character nor is this his story. Eyeshield 21 is definitely Hiruma's story and it's no fluke that he's always the favorite in the character popularity polls. So if you haven't read Eyeshield 21 yet, go buy it at that spanking low Viz price. It does have a few weak spots here and there, but overall it's just a killer manga that's definitely underappreciated. |

I agree. Eyesheild 21 is a fun and entertaining title. Like a lot of sport title, it gets addicting because you want to see the outcome of the game and how well the player perform. It is pretty unrealistic at times, but Yusuke Murata is a football fan and he understand the basic of the game.

I think the title Naruto, is very Underrated, and so is another not well known manga One piece.
lol just kidding.
I would have to say in my opinion that Beet is Underrated, athough some times it is a bore, I enjoy every volume and can't wait till the next, but Beet probably is'nt the best example... |

Both Eyeshiled 21 and Beet are both underrated, as mentioned. What about Whistle!? I don't hear much about that series.

I was thinking Whistle!. It's a much better series than people give it credit for, and a better series than I give it credit for. Go Sho! |

Sandland...they dont advertise it any more and it's REALLY good.
I have the 1st 3 volumes of Beet...I don't like it very much, it's a little too young for me. It's ok i guess... |

I think, though popular at one time in Japan, Saint Seiya gets absolutely no love in the U.S. Most everyone that has reviewed it has either said it's mediocre or it's terrible. It caught on in most of the Spanish speaking countries and is fairly popular again in Japan...what makes their tastes so much different than our own here? Also, I agree with Beet, that it's really underrated. I'd also give a shout out to Dragon Quest: Dai's Great Adventure and Natsuki Crisis (both of which aren't available here as of yet). Natsuki Crisis is an incredible series that others like Tenjho Tenge and Ikki-Tousen borrowed from with the school/martial arts theme (only the latter two up the sex and violence quotient quite a bit compared to Natsuki Crisis).

Clearly you haven't been around much then, I see mentions of those titles, especially Death Note which is very popular, spring up all the time around here. |

Yeah, Death Note especially is rather popular among forum-goers, and Hunter x Hunter also gets a fair amount of noise from what I've seen. Neither series has the sheer mass of discussion that, oh, Naruto or Bleach has, but they are by no means underrated.
Actually, I think Death Note is getting to the point where the hype surrounding it may be somewhat damaging to the series popularity, but that's just my opinion. As for the other series mentioned here, I definitely have to agree that Eyeshield 21 doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves. Sadly, some of that lack is probably due to the subject matter--American football and manga don't seem like things that would easily mesh. I know I was skeptical about the series for quite a while, but after picking it up on the recommendation of a friend I'm very glad I decided to look into it. For my own contribution to the list, I would have to say that Black Cat is somewhat underrated. It's one of my favorite series, even if it may not be the most original. ~Shadrach Anki |

One Piece is very popular in Japan, but I feel that in the states it's not so well known. Other mangas like Naruto are more popular than it. But that may have something to do with how slowly it's released... (I dl it translated, then buy em when they come out in English).

Those are pretty good ratings, but I'm mainly talking about the hype. One Piece isn't as hyped as all the other mangas out there, but I kinda like it better this way so...I have no complaints, it's perfect as it is I guess.
