I hope they haven't been discontinued. I still haven't gotten around to Patlabor... Sad Well we know Slayers is going to FUNi, and there was some ad at AX which suggested Tokyo Babylon was going OOP, but I dunno about the rest...

Hmm, I wonder what this is all about exactly?
Hopefully we'll find out a little more information.

Yeah, that really isn't very clear.

What do they mean "Due to contractual requirements"?

Hopefully they will get back to ANN and clarify the situation. I've been thinking about buying Utena and adding it to my collection (again Rolling Eyes Embarassed ), so I just might have to screw Discover and buy it.

It looks like all these titles are officially out of print.

But i can't understand why they would recall any unsold stock.

You're right. Seems kinda stupid. If I remember correctly they are having money problems, so one would think that they'd want to sell what is on store shelves to make some money at least.

I think Disney does this same act whenever their DVD's are "Sent back to the Vault."

OH DUH!! **Smacks forehead** IT'S A MARKETING PLOY! It's to make us run out and buy their product before it disappears from the shelves! Wink And it worked too, I just ordered the 3 Utena box sets from Right Stuf. I told them that I wanted all three at once or not at all.

Legal reasons. Once their license runs out, that's it. They can't continue to sell product, especially if their contracts (licenses) have expired. At that time, they have to recall all unsold product and give those stores credit back in exchange.

Remember, CPM was only able to continue distributing Slayers due to the good graces of FUNimation.

Now to be fair, it is possible that the recent problems CPM experienced are continuing, assuming that they haven't lost all the listed licenses.

It shouldn't affect rentals because those DVD's are actual sales and not credit sales, which is what retailers get.

Damn. Sad Well, at least it only says "Utena #1" because all I've left to pick up is the Apocalypse Saga set. *goes to order*

Couldn't come at worse time for them though, with all the trouble there in. Did they let these licenses expire or did they sell them? Or is it something else, its a mystery.

Damn, I have all of Arislan on VHS, but I was thinking of getting it on DVD, and I should probably swipe Nightwalker if it is going out of print. But I don't care, I have my Lodoss, Utena and Yami no Matsuei DVD boxsets and you'll pry them out of my cold, dead hands.
