*blink* It's an ADV channel. So they will be showing mostly ADV titles for awhile.

Besides, at this point it would be a very bad investment to have exclusive shows on TAN when there's nothing they can gain from doing so under such limited viewership.

Hmmm, next week Boogiepop will be rerunning next week on TechTV while it's also on TAN. Hmmm, so TAN can get anime outside of ADV, shows that are TAN can also be on other networks, and Boogiepop is one confusing series. Razz That blows two thories about TAN out the window.

I would like to see a CMP or AnimEigo release on there. Heck, YUA TV would go good with the specials that are the network right now.

uhh...no. I said MOSTLY ADV titles. I'm pretty sure that one non-ADV title out of the almost 30 ADV titles means that there are mostly ADV titles on the channel. Rolling Eyes

Is there really that much confusion over The Anime Network?! Why would you even need to have "theories" when it's been spelled out for you in the news over the past year?!

1. THE ANIME NETWORK IS OWNED BY ADV.

2. THE ANIME NETWORK PRIMARILY SHOWS SERIES THAT ADV OWNS.

3. ADV, INTERESTED IN HAVING CONTENT FROM OTHER COMPANIES ON THEIR NETWORK, LICENSES OTHER SERIES FROM OTHER COMPANIES FROM TIME TO TIME. EXAMPLE: BOOGIEPOP PHANTOM.

4. THE ANIME NETWORK OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT RETAIN EXCLUSIVE BROADCASTING RIGHTS TO THESE SERIES, SINCE THEY CAN SHOW ON OTHER NETWORKS AT THE SAME TIME.

Clear enough for you?

Yeah, as Zac pointed out. I wasn't trying start anything, I was just stating the facts. After all, there alot of people who misunderstand the fact that since ADV has their own channel, they can't sell broadcast rights out to anyone else, and if they are showing something that is owned by, say Bandai, it can't be on, say TechTV. Belive me, I read the "mostly" part. Heck, for all we know, TechTV might be getting the rights to FMP right now (Banner of Stars is almost signed up and it was said that their is one other.)

Except that's not correct. Boogiepop Phantom is on TechTV and on TAN. Now *ADV* can't sell the broadcast rights out to anyone else, but the license holder sure can.

Nah, ADV has came to TechTV with a few series, even after TAN hit the air . . . cable waves. In one of the older theards on TechTV board and chat, TechTVAnime (A person that works at TechTV and use to be in the "nook" on "The Screen Savers".) stated that ADV did pitched a title or three to programming, but chances are that it didn't fit TechTV is looking for (Sci-Fi, "Flashy", and set in present day). That might have changed, but chances are not.

ADD ON: Actually, it can be found in AU FAQ

Q: Any series owned by ADV will never be shown on TechTV, because of ADV's Anime Network, right?

A: Actually, ADV has sent us some anime titles for our review. There's absolutely no guarantee that AU will show ADV-owned series, but it isn't out of the question, either.

Q: What about a series that was recently shown or is currently showing on a cable channel like Cartoon Network or Starz?

A: North American broadcast licenses for anime are generally exclusive (meaning only the network with the license can play them for the duration of the license) and may last for 2-3 years.

However, this does not necessarily apply to anime available as pay-per-view or video-on-demand titles. Those licenses can be non-exclusive, so there might be more of possibility of getting those titles.

IIRC ADV is TRISI's distributor. That makes Boogiepop almost an ADV title...

I see where the confusion is coming from now....you are saying ADV titles can be on more than one channel (which is what I said...ADV has the license to those titles so they can sell the broadcast rights to other people). What I was saying is that if TAN is showing a Bandai title, ADV can't sell the broadcast rights to the Bandai title to someone else.

ADV went to a lot of stations to get their stuff on the air. There's an interview with a CN guy who said ADV titles didn't really fit their genre either. What I was saying was that you most definitely can have the same show on two different networks.

Damn, I'd love to see a Gundam block on TAN. I'm a big Gundam Freak (UC and AU), and this would be a great chance to bring many of those series to a wider audience. I don't download or get fansubs (wouldn't know how to anyway) so I haven't seen anything but what's been released here.

I don't know how likely this is to happen, it's just a thought.
