That's what I took away from it as well. And in a way I can understand that viewpoint. I think Carlo expected it to be the greatest thing ever and it wasn't to him. I think his expectations clouded his objectivity due to that in a big way. I've gone into shows with that mindset before and it tends to ruin them. As a professional reviewer though, you should really know better than to let that happen. The second half of the show is better in my opinion. The ending is actually one of my favorite endings of any series. It really does pull everything together and the action picks up as well. I think the first collection does a great job of setting the stage, building the story and introducing the characters. The second collection wraps it all up beautifully in the most epic way possible. |

What a worthless review. Are people really bored that easily by dialogue?

Ahh yes, knew that one was going to come up. The ever divisive episode 167. I think it's great myself. I'd certianly give Naruto Shippuden a much better animation score than FZ. |

Sure it has stretches of average and below animation, but Shippudden's high points are amazing. Between Hiroyuki Yamashita and Norio Matsumoto alone, it's an eyegasm. Throw in some Hironori Tanaka, Shingo Yamashita, and several other high grade animators and it's glorious.

No joke at all: hell, here's a video that just got posted a couple of days ago. It's a collection of cool scenes from Naruto and Shippuden, and these are only done by one guy (Norio Matsumoto), and tons of other great animators worked on it. Sure a lot of the animation in Naruto is uninteresting, but a lot of the animation in everything isn't particularly interesting. Anime is a narrative too. Sometimes the story calls for people just standing there talking, or a pan over a vista or something. To me the quality of animation is determined by the high points, how much interesting stuff there is, and how interesting it is, rather than the uninteresting parts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r818ApIgK5w EDIT: Lol King of Harts, I didn't see that you'd linked the same video. I guess it must have been in both of our consciousnesses since it's so recent |

While those particular scenes are pretty cool, such animation is quite rare in the series and looks completely different compared to the rest of the series, to point that anyone can notice it. In the end, you're left with a bad taste in mouth when there are three episodes in a row, each with considerably different art and animation quality. So basically, the consistency is the main problem here. I get it that there numerous problems to cope with, budget and what not, but these problems are way too obvious in Naruto Shipp's case. My opinion.

As opposed to giving only As and Bs ? Grade overinflation. They have the same problem at Harvard so why not have it at ANN ? Just issue new guidelines to give A+, A and A- for every review. Problem solved. |

Screw whatever animation shit these people are talking about. So you're telling me that Naruto and Ao no Exorcist have better stories than something like Fate/Zero?
I guess this is why I can never take 'pro' anime reviewers seriously. I wonder if it displays the standards of this anime community that I'm sadly associated with. |

No, it just means Carlo speaking for himself likes the story episodes in box set 14 of Naruto Shippuden and the whole Blue Exorcist show more than the first half of Fate Zero. It's not a matter of whether one is objectively better than the other, that's not the god damn point. |

He makes some good points regarding the story and characters, and lets face it the Type/Moon stuff is always kinda a love it or hate it scenario, but I have to agree with the comments regarding the C grade on the animation. I'm not one to usually nitpick this kind of thing but it did raise an eyebrow or two when I saw that as for me the animation quality of Fate Zero is definitely one of it's stand out qualities. Sure the CG is not the greatest sometimes but compared to other anime I've seen it stands up better then most, and the animation overall is some of the best I've seen in anime to date.

true i dont agree with the review but i wouldnt go bashing the reviewer since none of us cant do better reviews. Also FSN Realta Nua : Heaven's Feel is only getting a game release. NOT an anime release. Though it would be interesting if it did. |

Perhaps he's assuming the announced (but incredibly vague with no details) FSN anime project is going to be a Heaven's Feel adaptation, but that's pure speculation at best. |

Not even the most controversial we've had this year, actually, but only a handful each year do achieve this degree of discussion. |
