If so, this might just mean that the Japanese market is behaving similarly to the American market, with some people waiting for cheaper, collected editions before buying into a show. |
Not really. Nichijou was just ridiculously expensive. However early (1-3 years after show aired) boxsets are becoming more common though usually they only sell a fraction of what the series did. |
You also got exceptions which actually sell more units than its original release( Kill me baby and GJ-bu!). Although thats ussually related to the cheaper price & increased popularity. | True, they are two other exceptions. GJ-bu's boxset is ridiculously cheap resulting in many people who "liked it but not enough to spend tens of thousands of ¥" now buying it. After Amazon's discount it costs almost the same as single BD volume of normal anime. But well, GJ-bu anime was also relatively cheap, a shame it didn't do too well back then, one of my favorite 2013 anime.

It's just that the show didn't appeal to the anime disc buyers in Japan. I'm sure some people in Japan loved Kyousogiga but they weren't willing to buy the whole series, because, really, anime costs a lot of money.(I wish I was rich enough to afford buying anime |
This sounds like a big contradiction. If people love something, they should want to buy it. Quit trying to apologize for the crappy tastes of Japanese otaku. I am thankful to them for financing anime, but the majority do not seem to appreciate well written stories and characters. |
That's why I use the word under-appreciated. At some level, there's always a level of appreciation, but that's like saying Americans appreciate foreign films; it just didn't appeal to theater goers - sure they love it; they just don't think it's worth the rising costs of the trip to the theaters. If you're not willing to pay for something that ya would pay for another else that cost the same like action films, then ya just don't appreciate something enough. There's always good stuff that goes under-appreciated; Japan is no different; we're all just people, no better or worse.

normally Japanese people don't buy anime Bluray. They may buy dvd. But most of the time, they will just watch it or rent once, that's it.
Yes, some anime has better dvd sales than bluray.
From what i heard Space Brothers is super popular in Japan. Yet, nobody buys the bluray.

Celebrate great anime. Ignore fans with crappy tastes. |
Celebrate great anime ,ignore elitist fans who act condescending towards people with different tastes.
I take it you didn't support your show by importing the BDs because... Why blame other people for what you didn't do yourself?

Its harsh reality, i found Seitokai Yakuindomo* was hilarious. However, at the same time. I have consider where I'm going to tash all this stuff i'll end up buying. Isn't Tokyo known for its smallish appartments and homes? I can see with limited income, that normal otaku can buy so much, but they'll end up watching it on television or the web/ Why not? People like shows on television, but they don't want own the hold darn thing.
I think that the problem, aside from the state of the world economy. regular people don't got as much money!
