I've read that the movie that the anime comes from is inspired/based off the Greek myth of the Seven Against Thebes/Epigoni (however, both had armies with them).

Interesting to see a musical.
Going back to the alleged Greek myth inspiration: Oidipous' death meant a debate as to who would be next Theban ruler. In this failed campaign, it would be the Seven's sons, the Epigoni, that succeeded in the campaign. [/spoiler] |

Seeing some other ANN articles on such, I agree that there's some been somewhat of a rise of them these last few years. |

This is the first time I've read someone claiming that. I'm curious, where did you read that comparison? Quick glance at the synopsis in Wikipedia tells me no other similarities, except the number seven. |

Ryo Hazuki, I don't remember the exact place I first read because it was a few years ago. I Googled "seven samurai thebes" and 1 of the results was the 6/5/05 Straight Dope thread called, "How many 'Seven Samurai' knockoffs have their been?"
