Naruto 15 - I would have dropped it already, but I thought I had already canceled it from my order when I hadn't and when I tried to again it turned out that it had already shipped out and the status page just hadn't been updated yet so I was stuck with it. I figured I might as well kill some time at work with it since I was stuck with it. Reading this volume reaffirmed my decision to drop it. I had already seen all this in the anime, but that's no reason I should have been so bored and disinterested in it.
Bleach 20 - I had already seen 95% of this in the anime but it was still an awesome volume. The main difference was an extra little flashback scene that didn't make it into the anime. Last edited by HitokiriShadow on Fri Aug 24, 2007 11:54 am; edited 1 time in total |

Quietly slips darkhunter another $20. Really, I have no idea why my post would be considered good. Currently re-reading Remote and just started on the Assassin Bob case. This series was one of my very first manga. In fact, I do believe it was the first series I read that didn't have an anime. (My actual first manga series was Gunsligner Girl.) Even after so long, I still very much enjoy Remote. It has a charm that seems completely at odds with the dark and gritty brutality present in some of the cases. While parts of the series are a tad contrived, it has a way of making you not care, in fact it makes those parts feel natural some how. The art style is very appealing, at least to me. Yes, Kurumi is gorgeous and so is Inspector Himuro for that matter, but that's not what I'm talking about. What I'm talking about is the feeling of life and movement in the style. Also, the use of cute super-deformed bits here and there with Kurumi show just how sweet and nice a person she is. (How she manages to handle the cases the Special Unit deals with is one of the things that makes the series enjoyable.) The cases in the series are sometimes quite twisted. The way they end is often unexpected. And how Kurumi comes out on top is always a joy to see. The relationship that forms between her and Himuro is a draw too. Mixing dark violence and human brutality with a heroine who's heart is pure gold and a hero who seems heartless, Remote is still one of my favorites even after all this time. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes mystery, drama, can get past the violence and doesn't mind fanservice. Also, one of my favorite endings ever. |

I've read volume 1; would you reccomend the other two? And, to keep to the topic, I am reading Platinum Garden. Not liking it. And Mink I do like. It is a bit outdated (come on, what do you expect from a modern computer-type manga?), and Mink is actually funny at being the steriotypical shoujo heroine. |

Now that I have finished Matantei Loki, now I am into two series: DearS and Tenchi Muyo! Ryououki. DearS I think has been taking more of a priority these days, especially after I got into volume 2, because the series really took off from there as establishing itself as one really worth reading. When spoiler[there's two DearS exchange students at the school, the comedy involved with the storyline just flies, and really brought me in to laugh and keep reading about the mishaps of the main characters.]

Lunar Legend Tsukihime, GN 3-4:
Oh, curse this TYPE-MOON/Tsukihime loving heart of mine. Almost everything I read has already been covered through either the game/anime, and yet, I continue to find it enjoyable. Anyways, the whole thing's unfolding as usual, with minor twists to event placement and some minute changes in character relationships. Along with everything else, the artwork's nothing new or exciting, but it stands comparably to it's source material. The highlight of both volumes was a fight spoiler[between Akiha and Ciel], which I don't recall having happened in any other media (though it may well have; can't say). In some cases, familiarity is a good thing. For me, this is one of those cases. |

I remember that fight as well, and I don't remember it coming up in the anime. Volume 5 has just come out, I'll be hoping to get my hands on it, however I have noticed that there have been some minor details here and there that are different from both series as they are played out. Guess I can't expect everything to be perfectly planned out and go according to one source, then again now that I'm talking about this series I just remembered that the manga is just going off how the anime went. I'd really like to see if Melty Blood will be turned into an anime though. |

I just started reading quite a few manga so I wont bore with list. Notable Notables however are
Black Sun, Silver Moon by Tomo Maeda: based on the first volume; well- thought-out dialogue and emotion created by a focused and dedicated mangaka... I have a feeling this is by no means her first work. Oh oh, and not to mention fangirlsqueeeeee pretty drawings. Princess Princess by Mikiyo Tsuda: I'm already familiar with the artist of this. My view of her work is hard to explain... The best I can say is that when I read her work I feel "at home" (maybe 'cause the some of the first Boy's Love I was exposed to was hers?). Tsuda is very good at guiding the reader. And, because I guess Princess Princess is popular I thought I'd read it! ( I already saw the anime before the manga, how bad of me). Mamotte! Lolipop by Michiyo Kikuta: I like cute things that I'm suposed to be too old for. This is one of them. She swallows a "candy" and poof! Two pretty wizard boys appear and say they'll protect her for six months. Cute loli/shota character designs and giggleworthy comedy abound. On a side note... I saw the anime for this... and the wizards actually HENSHIN! Mahou SHONEN! I. Can't. Stand. The. Cute... Monster by Naoki Urasawa: Now quite different from anything else I'm reading. GOOD WRITING! Writen by a master of suspense? Most certainly YES. I mentioned to a co-worker that I saw the Monster anime and liked it very much. He said he just happened to own five volumes of the manga and he lent it to me! I must lend something to him in return...ohohoh for some reason I don't think all my Boy's Love will cut it. I'll just lend him GitS SAC ;D |

I just finished reading the first two chapters of Shin Angyo Onshi, and wow, this series doesn't pull any punches!
Fantastic artwork coupled with an intriguing anti-hero and and a twisty-turny plot, it's a damn fun read. Right off the bat we have a plot twist and moral dilemma facing the readers. The protagonist Munsu is an anti-hero in every sense of the word. After the fall of Jushin, Munsu, the last of a certain type of a government agent--angyo onshi--who punishes corrupt officials, travels around continuing his job due a promise he made to his dead best friend. But his actions are questionable at best as he lies, cheats, tortures, and takes advantage of whatever is necessary to punish the corrupt officials/warlords and even "turns against" the people at times. And the best part is that he has human limits and uses his brains when fighting. So no sudden power surges or planet-destroying Kamehameha blasts here. The plot is initially episodic, but is actually a part of an overarching one. Images (a tad spoilerific):
This one is too large, and perhaps a bit risqué for the forums so I'll just post the link here. I've heard people compare this to Berserk and Claymore before and I can see why now. Oh and the series hasn't been licensed yet, but finished at 17 volumes this year. Last edited by SharinganEye on Sun Aug 26, 2007 12:38 am; edited 2 times in total |

Copy and paste...
Flame of Recca 19 - Yay, more editing from Viz. I still don't understand how the hell Viz determines these things. For 12 or so volumes, nipples are fine, then suddenly they decide to start editing. Anyhow, this is probably the weakest volume of the series. It's still a bridge between the previous arc and the final arc and this one is mostly a flashback mostly involving relatively minor characters. It needed more young Kagero and Reina is nice though. Hayate the Combat Butler 4 - Yay, new characters galore. Hinagiku is easily my favorite of the new cast. The now infamous "food girl" (at least on AoD thanks to Fudce [and someone else?]) Nishisizawa is also introduced, but sadly its only for one chapter and there is no food involved in that chapter. Is the food thing something unique to the anime? Speaking of the anime, my will to wait for a license and an R1 release is waning... |

Huh....I really didn't like this series, and I like plenty of manga that I'm supposed to be too old (or too male If you're looking for some good shojo, for god's sake, RUN out and buy Sugar Sugar Rune. Now THAT'S good shojo. |

More or less I actually like DearS more than I like Zombie Loan. It had a thing going for it but then spoiler[after one of the guys had to kill his friend ]it didn't seem like it had that certain kind of hype that you want from a story afterwards. |

And I hate the main character. She's so archetypally pathetic. |

Got about thirty pages into the next Chibi Vampire novel, and it continues to remain true to the spirit of the manga. This time, Karin's teenage angst turns towards an observed encounter between Kenta and a novice nun by the name of China. I expect pretty much the same that I got from the first novel: a light read with a couple of darker twists thrown in for good measure. requiring not all that much in the way of thought. Good thing, too; classes resume tomorrow, and the first week provides all that I need to be thinking about.
Well, the Tsukihime manga could still pull a few twists of its own by the end. But for now, it feels like it's starting to drift more towards the game storyline. It would be fun to see the manga tackle Hisui's and Kohaku's backstories, if it includes it at all. |

The anime with it's twelve episodes in a way seemed a little rushed when having to deal with certain arcs in the series. The fight with Nero Kaos for example, wasn't as long in the anime as the manga made it out to be. And then like you said there wasn't much of a background for Hisui and Kohaku, so it would be interesting to see that. |
