Anyone bought from Overstock.com before? I'm wondering how well they pack their shipments.

For comparison's sake, I consider TRSI to have truly excellent shipping: cheap or free, delivery tracking, and cardboard boxes with extra room. How does Overstock.com compare to that? Incidently, I'm avoiding retailers that only use padded mailers unless there's a discount that's impossible to ignore.

Thanks,
Kep

I've bought from Overstock.com, and while they don't pack things as well as TRSI, they do use fairly sturdy boxes, at least with the items that I bought. However, I should mention that I've always ordered several DVDs at a time, so I'm not sure what they'd use for shipping if you were ordering just one DVD. Also, aside from being in a decent box, there wasn't a substantial amount of padding.

They have fairly good prices and can beat TRSI sometimes, plus you can occasionally find hard-to-find items on there. I picked up the art box for Someday's Dreamers off of there when I couldn't find it anywhere else and that made it to me without damage.

Price wise, in my experience, their claim of shipping always being $2.95 is true. It's not as good as free shipping, but so long as you're saving more than you're spending on shipping, it's not a problem. I can't remember if they had delivery tracking or not. I think they do, but I won't swear to it. (It's been a little while since my last purchase from them.)

Searching through their site can be a bit of problem as hentai is mixed with regular anime.

All in all, I think they're pretty good, but I'd stick with TRSI or Robert's Anime Corner Store if you want truly safe shipping.

I've ordered from Overstock.com many times (well, technically my mom has), and I've never had any problems with their shipping. TRSI probably is the best when it comes to packaging, but I think Overstock is good too. I have never received anything that was damaged. (One of my Ergo Proxy DVDs had a small puncture, but it wasn't anything serious, and that's has only happened once.) Sometimes when they ship only one DVD, they'll ship it in one of those envelope things (I'm not sure how to describe it), but I've never had a problem with that.

I've ordered over $100 of items at one time before, and shipping was still only $2.95. It might cost more if you buy furniture or something, but for DVDs and books it shouldn't ever cost more than that. Their shipping has always been pretty fast for me, so I think it's worth paying $2.95 for.

Also, you can track your orders.

Overstock has an older boxset which TRSI doesn't, which is why I was pondering them. I still haven't decided yet if I'll get it, but knowing that their shipping is pretty good means one less thing to worry about. Thanks for the replies! Smile

Did you end up ordering from overstock.com? If so how were they? I am thinking of ordering an art box or two from them. Thanks

The few times I ordered from them the packaging seemed adequate, certainly no TRSI but far better than deepdiscout and there packingless boxes.

In general I try to order from TRSI, Barnes and Noble and TFAW as those companies seem to do the best job in shipping. DVDPacific isn't too bad but it seems to take them forever to get your packages out and if you order a few items at a time they tend to cram them all in to one box at the expense of packaging, but ya can't beat their prices.
