I've never had any interest in this show at any point in my life, but I suddenly remembered that it existed a few minutes ago, and I checked to see if it ever had a DVD release on a whim, and my jaw dropped. The individual DVDs are the cheapest I've ever seen any anime DVDs ever.

But why are they so cheap? Are they really lousy in quality? I know they just made a slimpack (which, while cheap, is still not as cheap as buying the individuals), but are there are clear advantages to buying it?

I need to stop buying so much anime, and start actually watching what I do buy.....

If you are talking about the 2.99 price in the TRSI bargain bin I think it is just because they are trying to get rid of the last stock they have left of them. They have low quantities for the remaining volumes they have left. The series singles are already OOP and there were previously box sets that have also gone OOP, and ADV is now going to release a new complete series tin box set, and that is what they'll try to push from now on.

So I don't think it has anything to do with quality of the series at all. I've never seen it so I can't speak for the artwork or animation but I've heard mostly good things about the story and I'll probably get the tin on an ADV sale sometime next year.

If that's the cheapest you've ever seen an anime DVD go, you're not looking hard enough- I've often come across titles in the Amazon marketplace for less than $1 (in fact, I seem to recall one listing for a volume of RahXephon at a penny.)

It's not that the DVDs are necessarily bad- just old. As the market marches on, sellers lower prices on old stuff just to try and get it out of the way for the new. Happens everywhere. (The store I work at, for example, drops seasonal merchandise as low as 90% off when it's outdated- not only does it still not sell fully, but people will actually come back to return merchandise bought at that discount. That part always boggles me, but I digress...)

I just picked up the new Nadia set in the metal case for $55 at best buy. ADV did a nice job on the set.

I was excluding eBay and amazon stores from that figure.

So no one knows for sure? Because I know everyone said how much better Platinum Eva was than normal Eva (even though vl.1 of the original release is defective...), and I was wondering if they did the same thing here. I kind of don't like slim packs, and even having to go through the hassle of ordering the missing volumes at separate amazon stores (I checked, no one store has even 2 of them for a good price) it'd still be roughly the same price.
