I largely agree with the reviewer, and am happy that they seemed to enjoy this installment much more than the first. It may not give people exactly what they want or are expecting, but I think this trilogy has very interesting ways of playing with the mythology and is mostly successful at creating interesting conflicts which is what this film focuses on.
Also, I’m betting that the Houtua are basically the Mothra tribe. I can’t recall the scientist character’s name, but he mentions that the Houtua don’t have human genes and appear to originate from insects. The golden powder that coats their skin and what they used to heal the crew also seems to foreshadow it. And they worship an egg so I’m calling it now.
