You wants something deep from a ridiculous anime where hot young girls in suspiciously fragile clothes fight with stolen from 50's B-Movie monsters? This is the obvious "so bad that good" anime.

I read the manga for that and it was so, so, so terribly B movie in the most insidious way. It wasn't even B movie in the vein of something like The Giant Claw or It conquered the world. It was B movie in the vein of the trashiest soft porn like Satan's cheerleaders. Seeing this made into a movie gives me flashbacks from those days when Violence Jack and Bible Black got serious adaptations.

This is not surprising. I happened across the manga a few months ago and I dropped it after just a handful of chapters.

That scene with Musubi walking down the hall just felt so out of place and random when watching it. I knew I wasn't going to be the only one thinking it. The movie was pretty bad, but it still wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Basically, it's just every horror trope and cliche rolled into one movie. If this can get an adaptation, I want to see adaptations for Bougyaku no Kokekko and Pumpkin Night, why not? Similar types of stories in a similar vein.

Not a good movie, but I at least found it entertaining.

I not ganna praise the movie for cut stuff, or being LQ in many aspects, but I will say this,
Some people like cheap horror junk and I'm one of them,

I played old horror video games that had much worse plot that this film or its manga and like some of it's aspects, so for me the film was fine (and dam I really want to know what happened with that ginat crab), not good, not godly, but fine, cheap horror filmes always went with a stupid group tropes and nudity, and for me that movie remind of the good old 90s even if it didn't meant to,

The point is, there are some consumers who love this kind of stuff and would like to see more of it even with all of the plot holes and stupidity~

Island of Giant Insects was going for a B-rated horror movie feel but I think Calamity of a Zombie Girl did it better. It was violent even by the standards of an OVA so it works in terms of the horror element but it had animation and pacing problems which made it an average adaptation of the manga. Mutsumi was a good protagonist who was part action hero and part scientist which made her the best character in the movie.

Theron Martin wrote:
This is essentially the Mutsumi Show, as only one character besides her ever demonstrates having functioning brain cells.

Mutsumi, the class president, and the chill hacker dude were reasonable people but I agree that most of the cast had a serious case of B-rated horror movie stupidity.

Theron Martin wrote:
Perhaps the most egregious offense is the 80+ second long scene of Mutsumi just walking down a hallway while rock music plays. Obviously it is meant to make her look like a badass, but it comes off more like stalling for time.

I thought that scene was hilarious and I remember reading that the studio wanted to make a TV show but didn't have the budget for that so they decided to make a movie. The sad truth is that they didn't have the budget even for a movie and that scene was the most obvious example of the limited budget.

I am surprised you gave it a C- if it was so bad. I haven't watched it but the rating seems to indicate mediocre/average

Given my aversion to a certain insect mentioned in the review, you saved me the curiosity of wanting to see it.
Would've easily settled for locusts, but instead... well, insert relevant Nicholas Cage quote, and you all know what I'm getting at.

TL:DR Why did it have to be [REDACTED]? / That's it, I'm outta here!

That really obscure Wii game “Escape from Bug Island” comes to mind when I think of this movie.

More like wasps or hornets. Japan has one of the biggest. Their bees have a defense mechanism where they swarm and cover a single hornet, spreading their body heat to roast it alive. That said, if you are averse to hornets or wasps, avoid the temptation of seeing it, unless for curiosity.
