P.S. I'm glad I dropped Black Clover right after the first episode. What I thought would be a one or two-cour show, it ends up ongoing now even after nearly 150 episodes. It would've been torturous for me.

I only quit after it had over 100 episodes, and was repeating the same filler episode plots it had done before, specifically one around being in a mixer with the most lazy use of character quirks that I would accuse it of being out of character in their stupid quirks being turned into their own character trait.

Well, we basically have a month left until the new season (finally) starts so I guess now is a good time to remind myself of what the previous arcs/seasons were about. I still know the major story bits but it has been a while.

I defo need to rewatch all the preceding seasons or I'll be hopelessly lost. I own the first season on Blu-ray and I can get the second off of Crunchyroll.

Giving season 2 of this anime another chance is one of my interim tide-me-over goals.

Edjwald, I can't vouch for season 2 because I don't remember it very well. I seem to have a memory of a drop off in interest for whatever reason. Maybe things were becoming overly complicated? As I say, I can't really remember. What I can tell you is that I've rewatched the first 14 episodes of Season 1 and I'm LOVING it. I think I'm enjoying the rewatch more than the original run, probably because I can watch multi episodes in a single sitting rather than having to wait week to week. Hopefully, I'll dig season 2 as well.

That makes sense since most arcs turn into a big brawl between multiple characters at once.
As for season 2, it introduced a few new characters that can be real hit or miss such as a certain deranged bully of the weak. It does have a lot of exciting fights though and the larger threat in the story becomes a bit clearer.

So I finished my rewatch of Fire Force Season 1 and there were two consequences to that. First, I had a rollicking good time and second, I changed my original rating of the show from Very Good (8/10) to Excellent (9/10). I did this for two reasons. One, I think being able to watch the entire season in a compressed time period as opposed to doing it over 24 weeks made me appreciate the story-telling chops even more. And two, it's been almost 6 years since Season 1 came out and in that time I have seen a poop ton of anime with really flawed story-telling. So when I encounter a superior example of it, it really stands out. Looking forward to diving into Season 2 so that I'm ready for Season 3 when it comes out on April 4.

The first episode made for a damn good long awaited return. The first half was calm enough with some flashbacks to recount what happened in previous arcs and the gang having a training session on the roof. Things quickly went downhill after that with Obi being taken in custody and the army/temple now working together with the White-clad. I am not entirely sure if captain Burns is truly onboard with them though.

The animation looks great and has some creative touches. The opening is nice too (though nothing will ever touch Inferno) and shows that friends and enemies will work together.

Gotta admit to being pretty hyped be able to see it to completion.

I know this is made by the author of Soul Eater so that should be the series it reminds me of and compare it to. But actually the series it reminds me most of at least when it comes to some of the characters especially the lead is Blue Exorcist, tell me I am not the only one seeing that.

You are not, zfunk. In fact, for a long time I really thought the mangaka for this was also the Blue Exorcist mangaka. It was only recently that I looked that up to confirm it and was reminded that, no, it was Soul Eater. I haven't read the manga for Fire Force, Blue Exorcist or Soul Eater, but damn, I've enjoyed the hell out of their anime adaptations.

Maybe the author of Blue Exorcist and the author Soul Eater and this series are friends. You never know. Heck if the authors get along, and the publishing companies are cool with each other, love to see a BE / FF crossover omake.

Don't get me wrong, I love Fire Force and glad it is back.

Episode 1

I'm ecstatic to have it back, too. Super happy I got the rewatch of the first two seasons in before the premiere. As always, the story just continues to develop in interesting ways. Obi getting snagged by the army, the 8th determined to get him back and the White Clad parleying with segments of the Special Fire Forces, not fighting. Good stuff, man.

S3, 1:

S1: Summer/Autumn 2019
S2: Summer/Autumn 2020
S3: Spring 2025

Man, that felt like a lifetime ago.

I don't fully remember the full details of what happened in the previous season, just bits and pieces of it. I do remember how the first season didn't click well with me, with the execution. The second season fared much better for some reason; the direction felt much better (I thought it was because the director changed). Of course, I remember the ending causing a ruckus on whether Fire Force exists in the same universe as Soul Eater (yeah, I'm talking about that damn moon).

Not sure if I should have rewatched the previous season; I can get by without it. This season kicks off with the familiar—dare I say trope—"enemy of the state" plot. You know, that old chestnut. The team is now disbanding and becoming rogue agents? Man, is this Captain America 2? Are the White Clads essentially Hydra? Not surprising, though; the 8th brigade has always been the token rebellious ragtag bunch, so going rogue is only meant to happen.

It was a wild world we were living in when the last two seasons came out (remember when the pandemic was a thing?). Interesting memories back then. I'll cruise along with this show, for old times' sake.

Oh, and of course, how could I forget:

Látom.

Episode two was very much a prep episode before shit goes down. Of particular note are Joker joining up with the gang and a lot of the other fire departments not at all believing the news that Obi is a traitor. Joker joining up with the gang has indeed been a long time coming and I look forward to the chaos that will ensue.

Also kudos to Obi for making every day a workout day.

Episode 2

I am so pissed off at myself. I wanted some info on a certain character and so I did what you should never do: I did some internet research aaaaaaaaaand of course ending up learning something I didn't want to know. *kicks self in the nuts*. Oh well, no point in crying over spilled milk, I guess.

Anyway, these episodes just fly by, always a sign of superior story-telling.
