The premiere left me feeling interested in more yet also tired of some very common tropes/cliches. The interesting part consists of there being a unique style to the show (that includes those ''speakers''), the Oni likely having fun unique powers and the war between the two sides having some interesting implications. The cliche part is a checklist of losing your adoptive parent, wanting to get revenge, becoming part of a supernatural school and the mc yelling as much as Asta from Black Clover.

Ya gotta wonder where a Japanese teenager got all those guns from. Japan isn't like the US where they give 'em out as prizes in cereal boxes. Anyway, I dug it. smurky is right about the cliche/trope-fest, but I'll allow it. |

As Caitlin Moore mentioned in her preview guide review, those are Airsoft guns.
That site even sells LLENN's Pink P90 from Gun Gale Online, or if you prefer, Henrietta's black P90 from Gunslinger Girl. |

Well, that certainly makes more sense. However then my next question would be... how did he afford all those? I thought he and his father were binbo.

This felt like the beginning of Blue Exorcist, only the MC's oni form had that Chainsaw-Man-gore-vibe to it, but then the credits revealing more oni, and the fact that these two factions keep going at it, makes it feel like a little Hellsing, too. The oni/Japanese lore or world-building they do will be the difference-maker. I hope it ends up being unique enough to make it stand apart from the other 3 titles I mentioned. Otherwise, it's just gonna' feel like a another mishmash shounen.

Maybe I missed it - I had a pet that was being particularly aggressive about begging while I was eating and watching this show - but they should make a point of showing the blood from those blood bullets seeping back across the floor and returning to the MC's body. Otherwise the dude's going to be taking a bullet train to anemia.
Anyway, the combination of blood magic and the MC's military armament fixation seems to be the most distinct thing that this anime has going for it right now, though the oni hunter's nanotechnolo---(cough) I mean, black particle magic isn't too shabby either. Like Tony said, if you switched out sword summoning or fire magic or lycanthropy for blood magic, the rest of it wouldn't feel too different from other hunted-because-of-an-ancient-bloodline shows of the shounen type. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing if that's what you're in the mood for. For me, it's going to depend on how the oni school plays out. |

Given the opening and the start of the school arc in the second episode the show seems to be what I hoped for. A distinctive style, lots of unique powers being used and the Momotarou side being quite the opponent. The supernatural school aspect is slightly different from usual in that them being Oni means all of them being aggressive/hot headed to some degree. My only issue is Shiki being even more annoying than Asta was at the start of Black Clover. Even compared to the other hot heads Shiki is running purely on raw instinct and attitude.

I specifically thought of Asta too. Both MCs take the all heart, no brain, non-stop screaming shounen model to the extreme, and it was already pretty extreme to begin with.
The set up of the show isn't bad, but it also might not feel original enough to compensate for the MC being so annoying. Of the shows I've been giving three episodes, I dropped Necromonico and the Cosmic Horror Show on Tuesday, Hell Teacher on Wednesday, and I just dropped Watari Kan's ******* is Collapsing today. This one and Turkey! Time to Strike and Solo Camping For Two and City the Animation hit the 3 episode deadline next week, and I could see keeping all of them or dropping all of them or some combination thereof. They've all got some good points and meh points to me. So basically, I'll be watching somewhere between 28 - 32 anime, and there are still 2 new 6 episode anime coming. |

Can't say I was too thrilled with the only apparent girl in the class being all shy and rules-following, while most of the boys were as prickly and ready to throw down as Shiki. The ED seemed to show some badass girls though, so maybe she was an outlier.
But the idea that he's not the only bad-tempered oni was one I liked. Makes the Momo seem like they have a reason to be so dedicated to their cause. Also like the rollerblading teacher. Has anyone else noticed that most academy classes we see in anime are really sparsely attended? Why do they have like 50 seats for fewer than a dozen students? Even Naruto's classes had lots of empty seats so no one had to sit next to each other unless they wanted to. Last time I can recall a packed lecture hall was in Misfit at Demon King Academy. |

As of episode 3 most students (possibly all) share the trait of being rather unstable. Shiki switches between crying, shouting and throwing hands at the drop of a hat and that shy girl seems deeply traumatized with a blood power that she can't control (or has a will of its own).
As for Jin, just looking at him is enough to make clear that he also has issues, most likely having to do something with his father. |

I am not sure how to feel about the training being put on hold. The emergency mission they are on now is bound to end up with them fighting the Momos. While that is exciting I would have liked to see the others making use of their powers too. Though I suppose them fighting not to get killed will also provide that opportunity.

Welp, the strong seeming teacher sure went out like a wimp, he is likely not dead but that was pretty underwhelming (could he not have jumped away before being closed in?).
