Wonderful write-up of these three episodes. I'm also a big fan of the manga and am very happy with how this adaption is going

It's nice to have the anime back and doing as much a stellar job of adapting the manga.
Kou is a quirky, awkward, but likeable protagonist and Nazuna's attempts to overcome her own deficiencies when it comes to dealing with love to romance him continue to be entertaining. These two just vibe so well. Miyuki Sawashiro is really capturing how unhinged and unsettling yet attractive Anko is. Even the new Creepy Nuts OP captures how much this is Anko's season and Miyukichi is perfectly capable of delivering on that. Rina Sato as Kiku is equally as effective. As alluring and sensual to woo Mahiru, to capture her "innocent" and teasing side, and then the next minute you see how much of a predator she really is. To become a vampire is to reject or erase your humanity, yet that very humanity becomes a vampires' greatest weakness. At least Akkun has got a protective vampire girlfriend in Seri who is willing to fight for him and also keep the memories of his human half that lead to their romance for him. The vampire waifu's (and Hatsuka) continue to do a great job livening up the plot. I'm really looking forward to seeing Nurse Kabura's story finally adapted. |

I've read 15 out of 20 volumes of the manga and I can guarantee this season will be amazing.

Anko is legitimately terrifying. She comes across very effectively as a predator of vampires. Despite her nonchalonce, she always seems entirely in control of the situation. Even though she's fought to a draw this time, she always feels like she's got at least one hand on the wheel.
Kou and Nazuna's chemistry still really works. They're awkward, sweet, stupid goofballs. And I still love the way the show renders the nighttime city as surreal colourscapes. Recognisable and alien, full of mystery and potential. By turns comforting, stark, calm and threatening. OP and ED are some of my favourites of the season too. |

I haven't dug into this season yet, but this was a great review and analysis of Episode 4. I had forgotten how strong this little arc of the manga was. <3

I love how Kou and Nazuna both tried to pull the Conan deduction moment but both totally got it wrong. These two are made for each other.
I kind of got a maternal vibe from Kabura last episode and now even Nazuna is acting like she's her mom/caretaker. I have to applaud Maaya Uchida's performance as Haru. It's so far from her usual roles, and so distinct a performance, she really makes Haru feel "real" and charismatic. She also does her own thing while still feeling like she's channeling Sora Amamiya as Nazuna, only slightly older and more mature. This has been the season for Yuri. When you've got an ill body, you feel out of sorts in your family, with your friends, and in society because no one seems to care about what you want...who wouldn't fall for a vampire waifu who understands and empathizes with you? And rebirths you in blood as a vampire? |

Poor Kabura. Her lesbian love story was basically just one of Haru's bisexual hookups (even if Haru did care about her), but at least she gets to enjoy having a vampire body out of it.
The owner of the hospital being a vampire explains a lot. Really has to make you wonder what was going through Haru's head when she went against what seems normal for vampires by more or less settling down with a partner and even having a kid. Or, y'know, how human-vampire procreation leads to a fully-grown baby. Kabura is a complicated woman. The love of her life left her with taking care of her child with some rando male. She raised said child as practically the childs' mother. Said child constantly reminds her of Haru (almost to the point where it seems like it adversely effects her). She makes the daughter cosplay as a nurse to be reminded of Haru. She's obsessed over a woman who she can't even remember the feeling of falling in love with after her vampire transformation. Anko sure works fast! Ko and Nazuna getting to Kabura was good not only for learning backstory but in saving Kabura's life. |

Much has been said on YouTube about Creepy Nuts' wonderful theme song to this season's Call of the Night. It's one of a few standout pieces this year of derivative theme songs, and I've probably listened to it fifty times or more. Totally unlike their other work, it's a unique Latin-inspired piece that surprises from the beginning. I just can't get tired of it.

Anko almost seems on the verge of a nervous breakdown when she can't kill a vampire.
I probably wouldn't be the same but I guess it's in-character for Nazuna to not be all that worked up about the dead parents she never knew and have no bearing on her current life with Ko. She learned some things about herself, she's content with her life now, she's flirting with Ko more than ever. What more could she want? Even when dressing as a parody of Otaku, Nazuna still looks stylish. They just had to have Tomokazu Sugita as the stereotypical, polite, and enthusiastic otaku, huh? Who is literally named for his love of Midori. Midori is known for trying to seduce and ensnare nerds and virgins, we saw her try to appeal to Ko last season, but that makes how protective and dedicated she is to LG all the more meaningful. Like, she acted around him like a girl would around her boyfriend. He's the one guy she doesn't want her fellow vampire waifu's seeing! I'm curious, for scientific reason, whether the Midori underwear he has is pre or post-vampirism. I love how there was a girl in a bikini just standing behind LG at comiket. That may or may not have been part of the reason he couldn't get anyone to buy his doujinshi. They may have had to burn the Midori smut, but it was filled with love and appreciation for its Heroine. |

Can't even call it foreshadowing when it's this much out in the open, can we? Fore-lighting? While up to the trademark coat could have been hand waved as some sort of elaborate bluff, the lighter I think seals the deal beyond reasonable doubt.
The only question is which particular vampire set our psycho detective on her quest for genocidal vengeance. Did Nazuna panic when discovered? Or in her innocence and naivete ,do it out of some misplaced desire to help her friend who suffered because of her parents? Or was it one of the other vampires. More than one (though particularly Kabura) seem to have motivation to protect Nazuna. Or was it entirely unrelated? Ko getting all jealous at the prospect of Nazuna having another friend was kinda fun. The kid's not a total lost cause in his romance quest. And was that their first kiss? I forget if it's happened previously, especially since it went entirely unremarked upon. |

Sooo did they seriously mean to throw that random kiss nazuna gave outside and not have anyone have any reaction at all to it? I had to play it back to see if i missed something because i figured that was a big deal? Just seemed out of place or some kinda content was mistakenly left out there.

I see Nazuna subscribes to the notion that the best way to end an argument is with a kiss.
Niko being a night school teacher who actually takes her teaching job seriously and really takes care of her students is actually really charming. I'm sure she's probably turned some of her students but that would be the least surprising thing ever. Wow, seeing Ko in perfect honor student mode you can tell how fake it is compared to how he usually is...and why he was probably popular despite that. I assume she's wearing very short shorts underneath but it's kind of funny how Nazuna is walking around pantsless. I love how Miyuki Sawashiro can still play a teenager in this day and age. Aw, our main couple is getting jealous! Nazuna over Ko's popularity with others, Ko for not being Nazuna's "first" (friend and possible offspring). It seems like romantic friendships with girls who aren't into men runs in the Nanakusa family. Granted I feel like for Mejiro it's not necesarilly purely a sexuality thing but mostly her complicated feelings for her dad. Mejiro really was just waiting to pull out the detective outfit and "Watson" her entire life, wasn't she? Being a doting father doesn't absolve you of cheating but it definitely makes it harder for your daughter to process how she feels about you.
They kissed before in season 1 (I think maybe twice?). |
