People who've read the manga: how many episodes do you think this show would need to be a worthy adaptation?

Yasutaka Nakata is probably too big to do anime soundtracks now, but his soundtrack to the live action series was really something special that elevated the experience. Hope the new soundtrack has a similar sound and not just some generic suspense stuff.

I really hope that it gets a proper ending this time. I really hate the manga's ending.

No Effing way. Its about time. Lets go!
Insert the Gordon Ramsey finally some good [expletive] food meme. I've watched the live action series and read the manga but its been so long I can't remember what order I watched and some details. Which is great so I can at least be a little entertained by the games till it all comes back to me. |

Oh wow! This just became one of my most looked forward to watch series for 2026! Been waiting for any news whatsoever involving Liar Game, since the years before Google owned YouTube. With an anime finally coming out, hopefully an English physical manga release will be announced real soon!
Also so glad Madhouse will be the studio behind the anime. |

I would preferably want two 26 episode seasons, but I suppose, if you absolutely had to, you could flat out remove some of the games. But man, I’ve always dreamed of a Liar Game anime. It’s one of the best psychological manga of its time. Speaking of, maybe now the manga will be licensed. |

Well this definitely wasnt in my bingo card for any of the last few years.... I thought the live-action series & movie were all this series was gonna have. I still vividly remember the OST for it which I'm concerned this new anime might not be able to top.
Its very fitting that the chief director for this series also worked on Kaiji & Akagi which shares some similar themes to this series. I hope this gets a good treatment & not some mediocre adaptation thats gonna get forgotten soon after it airs. Though, if they are planning on adapting the whole manga then they're gonna have to do something about the last arc & the ending because they are definitely the weakest parts of the series overall imo. |

Wow, I never thought this day would come. I love the manga and I'm very glad it's being adapted by Yuzo Sato and Madhouse. Maybe after that they could finish One Outs?

More than that, I think. There are two different Korean adaptation, I think.
But, yeah, pencil me in as someone coming into this primarily with a background in the (Japanese) live-action drama. I remember liking it quite a lot back in the day, though it was never one of my favorites. I don't know if I was ever able to hunt down any of the manga to read -- I just don't remember. My recollection is that, at the time, a lot of these shows based on manga that I wound up liking (like Seigi no Mikata simply weren't available in English -- not licensed, not scanlated. It also wasn't always clear when a show was based on something else versus an original story. EDIT: tired to look it up to double-check, but I'm not seeing anything. I must've been confusing Liar Game with something else: I thought for sure it'd gotten a new Korean adaptation last year. |

Ok u just reminded me that the korean live action version exists. Anyways, i was referring to the japan live action tv series & the movie which I thought had a banger OST. I still find myself going back to listen to some of the tracks every now & then. |

I'll break down the live-action adaptation: 2007 TV drama from Japan: 11 episodes long, broadcasted from April-June 2007 Liar Game: Season 2: 9 episodes long, broadcasted from Nov 2009-Jan 2010. It followed up with a film continuation, titled, Liar Game: The Final Stage. Two years after Liar Game: The Final Stage, in 2012, we have Liar Game: Reborn. And this looks like it's not related to the TV series since none of the casts from the TV series reprised their roles. Then in 2014, we have the Korean TV drama adaptation of the manga. I hope this helps for any of you that are confused. |
