Rintaro has one of those unfortunate anime faces that makes everyone assume he's a bad boy, and that's been the case since he was in elementary school.

This could've been more believeable... if he's got My Love Story!'s Takeo look/build, or perhaps Beelzebub's Oga (or better yet, Angel Densetsu's Seichiro). Anime smile + sweatdrop

This is my gripe as well. Rentarou is pretty much a looker for me, and his tall build makes him very attractive. I just can't help but think that Kaoruko is very obviously, and understandably, thirsting over him. And not because she probably sees something in him regardless of his physical appearance, but exactly because of it. I can also see how Rentarou's friends could be 'routes' in reverse harem dating sim games, and the girls from other schools still manage to despise them? I'm just not used to seeing girls not swooning over those designs.

The cast is just a bunch of attractive people. It makes it hard for me to comprehend how these NPCs are meant to treat them. This isn't something new and not exclusive to Flower Blooms, but it's the latest for me to present this trope so obviously. Also Gojo (from Dress Up Darling) is canonically handsome right?

Everyone in Bisque Doll is good looking, even minor characters. Kanojo, Okarishimasu tries to make some of the make supporting cast less conventionally attractive but that even comes off as comically cliche with buck teeth and broad shoulders. Zutaboro Reijou attempts to make Marie look unattractive with freckles so they cover them up but she looks great with them anyway.

Diegetically I want to believe people find Marie unattractive because of the radioactive green aura that surrounds her at all times

But as for people finding Rintaro intimidating, although the show will go into more detail about it later it's important to understand the longstanding stigmatization of bleached hair and what it supposedly implies about someone like Rintaro

Netflix's release of this anime gives me a headache but I'm happy they're doing a fantastic job with adapting the manga. Also a Kenshi Yonezu OP is always appreciated.

As far Kaoruko's dub VA, from the dub clip apparently it's Rosalie Chiang of Turning Red fame who also voices Lu in the Sakamoto Days dub, and delivers a similarly slightly stilted performance.

To be honest I just appreciate mentioning Betrothed to My Sister's Ex. One of the big underrated romance gems of the season (in my opinion).

The episode isn't officially out yet, aside from within Japan.

I don't understand equating "bad boy" or "intimidating" with unattractive-looking. You can be gorgeous and still scare the shit out of people with a glance.

Anyway, the girls from the school treat them like dirt, not because they're not good-looking, but because they're not rich. They're poor, and that's a worse sin than unattractive. Poor = dirty, unmannered, crude, violent, barbaric in their closed minds. Poor might rub off on you if you get too close. No matter how good looking they might be, they're not suitable matches for rich girls whose families would also never accept them, so they might as well be ugly.

It's on Netflix Philippines and presumably other countries in Southeast Asia for weeks now.

As far back as I can remember ANN will only have ratings available once a show is out globally or atleast in a majority of the world.

another factor in the animosity between the schools their attitudes

The boys public school is full of goofballs that just want to have fun while the fancy girls private school are strict academic overachievers. The girls’ hostility is in part due to the belief that hanging with those morons next door will cause you to catch their stupidity

You got Kenshi Yonezu mixed with Tatsuya Kitani. Similar hairstyles, I guess?

Sure but why does ANN then put the star rating buttons at the top? Inconsistent a bit.

Glad the first two episodes were finally released in the US today. Shame it took so long but well worth the wait. The animation is great and the seiyuu are very good. Glad the rest of the world can finally enjoy!

Except for Robbie Daymond, all the dub voice actors appear to be new in anime. Some of them did voice acting for English dubs of live-action works, and Aaron Fors started out as a child actor.
