Well, episode 5 (of season 2) showed that while Mukoda is indeed a bit of a coward the monsters in the dungeon are all pretty darn lethal and intimidating. It also helps that he has a big heart when it comes to helping those in need. I appreciate that the episode maintained a good balance between dungeoneering and cooking/relaxing. From what I have heard the anime skipped a lot of the dungeon visit yet if they had adapted everything it would have easily taken 4 episodes or so. I appreciate a good dungeon but that would have been a bit much for me.

The grocery store skill showed how useful it can be this week outside of just being infinite food.

It kind of seems like new characters are being introduced without really bringing anything new to the table (just realized how appropriate that expression is) with the crazed elf scholar being an exception.

For example, I'm not sure what this new A-rank party accomplished plot wise. Seems to me they could have had one of the Iron Will peeps wounded just as easily.

I'm also curious about what the pixie dragon adds to the dynamic. He has the same attitude towards food and battle that Fel and Sui do, and I guess he's somewhere between Fel and Sui in terms of powers and personality. Not sure what new plot billiards he sets into motion.

And I'm not sure what the two new male gods do to change things up. They want snacks. They give blessings. They become increasingly pushy. That's the exact same dynamic as the female goddesses had going.

So...new faces...but they basically do the same thing as the old faces. Now, I'm not complaining. I've said before that I've yet to get tired of the formula of this show. Just thought it was kinda/sorta interesting.

And it was interesting seeing Lord Fenrir have to work at it for once.

Finally got a chance to watch episode 5. Smurky, you are correct about those floors in that montage taking up a lot of time. I'm reading the WN and the only thing important on those floors was the lining of their pantry when the monsters are carved up and the potential lining of their purse when the dropped items are sold. So, all in all, you didn't miss much.

When I was in the military, I had to attend desert training at 29 Palms in the high desert of California and I can tell you, the author and the animation committee got the desert environment correct. You roast your butt off in heat over 100 degrees F during the day and about freeze when the temp drops to 30 F at night. Man I wish I had an item box or even that bag of holding back then. Packing both hot and cold weather gear in your backpack to carry around with you was hell. I'm looking forward to when they finally get to the ocean.

@Gisan Otaku, sounds like they made the correct choice in speeding things along. Seeing Fel and the gang kill monsters with ease is fun but I could see it becoming one note if you have whole episodes of it consecutively. That desert training does indeed sound like hell, pretty dangerous too.

Episode 6 was all about the dungeon rewards and meeting two desperate kids. The latter made for some very heartwarming moments with Mukoda doing everything he could to improve their situation (the end bit was great). The most interesting dungeon reward was Mukoda being able to improve his grocery store skill. Of the two options I would also pick delicious cakes and desserts over fastfood.

Mukoda's basic decency is what makes his cowardice tolerable, though I don't know that it's really cowardice. It's more that previous isekai where people get abilities and immediately start kicking ass and acting like battle veterans are seriously unrealistic.

I've never had to face down mythical monsters myself, but logically, going up against terrifying monsters trusting that some magical barrier will activate at the last moment every time just when the monster is about to kill you really would be beyond the nerves of most people. Kind of like bungee jumping. Sure, you know a cord is going to keep you from falling to your death...probably...

Anyhow, yesterday, I came home from work, and I took three eggs. I carefully made a crack in their shells by smacking them against the edge of a glass bowl, pulled the shells apart and dropped the yolks in a bowl. Then I took a fork and vigorously stirred the eggs. I poured the mixture into a frying pan and let it sit while I took 3 strips of frozen bacon, put them on a paper towel and plate, and cooked them in a microwave.

Then...and get this, I was multi-tasking...I took two slices of wheat bread and put them in a toaster. Then I took a spatula and flipped the cooked egg as if it were a pancake, then bisected it and bisected it again, flipping the sections as they cooked.

Finally, I put the egg on the toasted bread, sprinkled some pepper on it, got the strips of bacon out of the microwave, and then sandwiched the bread to make an egg and bacon sandwich.

Then I munched away while watching this anime smugly thinking yeah, whatever chef boy.

Sounds tasty! Have you ever tried this? Beat up 2 eggs. Then lightly fry carrot slices in a pan on medium-low until, upon flipping, the color of each carrot slice has changed to a lighter orange. At that time, add the eggs, and cook this mixture into an omelet.

The carrot slices should still be slightly crunchy when you eat it, and they give the omelet a bit of a sweet flavor, surprisingly.

If you add a little hot sauce or salsa, and a couple of sausage cooked separately, the combination of flavors blends well together.

I was making fun of my extremely basic cooking skills, but eggs are one of my stronger areas, so I'll try it in appreciation of your kindness (and because I like eggs and and salsa combos), but you're veering dangerously close to trying to get me to be a real cook

Never would I make fun of another's level of cooking skills, but I can understand doing that about yourself.

Still and all, the basics of cooking are indeed the foundation for everything else to be built upon. Wink

I've noticed through both seasons of Campfire Cooking, Mukoda is quite happy to introduce people to his recipes and his food; and (outside of the monster fights he gets shoved into at times, haha) has never once has acted anything other than as a decent, grounded, and mature person that relates well to others who are different from himself.

In an iseki series, that's a bit rare, that the MC is written as an adult in all senses of the word. No juvenile reactions or angst, or emotional tropes that wouldn't be natural.

It makes me appreciate Campfire Cooking almost as much as the out-of-this-world food porn. Smile

It is good to be reminded that Elrand is in fact a capable guildmaster when he actually works. Ugohl is the only one that can make sure he is not goofing off or indulging in his dragon obsession though. Ugohl was also the star of this week's episode since he made sure that the merchants did not swindle Mukhoda. The latter needs to desperately spend more of his hoard of gold coins. A few silver coins at a market stall is not going to do much.

Those forgotten gods are going to revolt soon.

I have to say, given the MC's cowardl(koff) cautious and thoughtful nature, his ongoing tendency to forget the deities seems a bit strange. The gods (small g) should have seen enough by now to know that one jolt of pure terror would have the crave(koff) judicious Mukoda pouring out barrelfuls of offerings with frantic apologies every night.

If I recall correctly, Mukoda's biggest expenditure from season 1 was a magic bathtub. I do kind of wonder what he's going to do with all that money.

Mukoda's online shopping requires cash, and now that he's got a lot of it, it might be interesting to see how far the online shopping range extends beyond groceries. That show about a middle aged online shopper got pretty creative in that regard, but given as Mukoda seems quite content with his nomadic lifestyle, I see him more interested in glamping than extending his fighting ability or owning property.

The show has always been in part about desire and indulgence, episode 8 took it up another notch though. Be it food or drink, there were a lot of fanatics on display this week. That goes particularly for those quirky gods who went wild after having been made to wait for a bit. They got what they wanted plus a permanent budget raise. Given the sneaky skill gift it is only a matter of time until the next Tenant becomes an option (good luck having the gods decide what will be chosen).

I could argue that Mukoda needs to make better use of his gift since selling Earth goods can earn him a lot of money but I think he is already richer than royalty by now.

@Tai-Khoraash. I finally tried that egg dish, and thanks for the suggestion Smile .

I liked the sausage, salsa, egg combo, but I probably won't do the carrots part next time. It's possible I got some timing wrong, but the texture and flavor difference didn't really blend well with my personal predilections, and I like six minutes or less cooking for my afternoon snacks. Maybe some pre-diced yellow onions?

So I rolled my eyes a little bit about our MC complaining how hard it was to send a couple of packages forward every evening - is it even once a day? Oh, I have to click a virtual button several times and then some glowing platform does the shipping for me while I sit on my butt, and all I got for it were magical buffs that let me use spells effectively and some protection magic!

This isn't the first anime where I've seen dwarves portrayed as total booze hounds. It seems to have become part of their...I dunno...stereotype? The same way we now associate archery and tree hugging with elves. My biggest surprise was that the first few dwarves were bold enough to manhandle the MC and threaten his life with a giant wolf sitting right there.

Wonder if we'll see those other people who came from our world near the end of the season.
