The first episode I both liked and disliked. I liked the part about gaming and showcasing why Sam is so passionate about it (fun opening too). The set up of living next door to the streamer who trashed the game you have been working on for years also seems promising. However, the office part bored and slightly confused me. With the latter I am refering to Charles who switches from seemingly not caring about Sam to caring enough about her to take his shirt off (sexual harassment ahoy) to using a potential firing (with no real justifiable reason) to see what she is made off.

Episode 1
Seems like this is a reverse harem, which should have been obvious to me given the image above. I guess the brief plot summary led me to believe there was only going to be one romantic focus for our heroine. Anyway, I liked it, despite not being super jazzed by romance shows, currently. The fact that this isn't a school romance helps enormously, as does the fact that I find our lead both adorable and sympathetic. I have to bag on Japan for its naming practises again... "Marshall Law"... really, Japan... really? |

Hey, at least it's leagues better than Tomino's character naming for Aura Battler Dunbine that had two characters from the US named Shott Weapon and Marvel Frozen! |

Not to mention Keen Kiss! It's so funny you mention that show because I just recently started watching it on DVD and yes, I have been properly horrified by some of the naming choices.

I can forgive the people from Byston Well for having unusual names, considering that they're from a different world, but I would expect a woman from Dallas, Texas or a man from California to have pretty typical American names. At least Todd Guiness has a believable name!

After watching the first episode, I got a little curious with how American this felt and did a little more research to discover: the source material is actually a web comic series written by an American lady who currently resides in Kansas City, Missouri. The comic was published on Webtoon till 2022, but she wants to switch platforms and continue with a fourth season somewhere else after reporting trouble with the former.
So I guess consider this another one of those rare cases of a North American property getting adapted into an anime, like the more recent (The) Beginning After the End. The author is also very big into gaming, hence some of the video game character names like Link (from Legend of Zelda), Bowser (from Mario Bros.), and Marshall Law (from Tekken). Apparently, the comic satirizes gaming culture and the industry while also covering issues like depression, anxiety, and family. I will say the production value is pretty good, like, way better than how Beginning of the End turned out. And it helps that you've got some A-list seiyuu like Kana Hanazawa, Tomokazu Sugita, and Yuuichi Nakamura playing the main cast. It'll be interesting to see how a Japanese studio adapts a very American story. |

At first when I read Tony K.'s post about the Let's Play creator being American, I thought I owed Japan an apology for twitting it over the name Marshall Law. But if she got it from Tekken, then Japan is still at fault!

Wherever the creator is from, I rather liked the second episode. A large part of that is there being a focus on the game side of things with no boring office shenanigans. Said gaming part included plenty of references both spoken and visual. The Skyrim compass appearing was a fun surprise for example. Marshall Law is a surprise in that he seems to be a decent guy. I suppose that it makes sense since there are plenty of streamers who act out a persona on stream and are rather different offline.

Episode 2
I'm not sold on this yet but I'm hanging in for at least one more episode. I hope Sam finally confronts Marshall about his review of her game next time. |

I've read the Webtoon up until the author stopped posting. I liked it ok, but I'm really not liking this adaptation. Without spoiling, I'll just say this isn't going where most people seem to be assuming it is, unless they completely rewrite the story.
Honestly though, the main thing that's killing me is the character designs. I can barely recognize any of them as they look almost nothing like the original art aside from hair and skin color. I'll at least stick around to see what they do with the pink haired woman's dog, which will either be normal looking (Bowser is the only character who's properly drawn), or an eldritch abomination. I hope for the latter, spoiler[ because the poor thing is already an eldritch abomination when drawn faithfully.] |

This is kind of where I'm at too; that this show is going to have to earn my continued viewing from week to week. The fact that Marshall is a surprisingly decent guy has actually made things more frustrating for me. It means that the solution to Sam's problem is to just talk to him. He would probably be receptive to what she has to say and would likely apologize and give her game another try on stream. |

Well, it finally happened, everything is out in the open now and it went about as well as could be expected. I am glad that Monica stopped Marshall from doing something stupid out of a desperate need to clear his guilt. Not that shoving money in Sam's hands is a good solution but making a video berating your fans sure if a good way to make things worse. Otherwise it seems like the reverse harem has officially begun (a bit sudden but expected). The ending is interesting in that they are all connected now and everyone seems to have history. |

I'm glad Marshall's name is finally out in the open. I probably won't have much more to say here for fear of spoiling. Looks like they cleaned Dinah up a bit for the anime. She's not as pale, wall-eyed, cock-eared and brain-damaged looking, and her only real oddity now is her tongue and even skinnier neck. (click for larger image)

I like that several storylines are taking place at the same time. That includes some adult themed ones such as a case of domestic violence and the lasting trauma of it and walking in on your spouse being unfaithful. Monica is a fair bit more caring about her relationship with Marshall than I first expected. |
