To me, this is the spiritual successor of the Haruhi franchise. I'm really excited to see it adapted fully, a feat the other regrettably never managed to achieve. (Of course the original novels also went on an effective hiatus, so it's not just the anime producers' fault.)

I hope Aniplex doesn't stall it's streaming release for too long like they did with the other films.

I'd forgotten about Haruhi until I read this but that series would map on pretty close, I've been viewing the Rascal series as a lesser Monogatari.
Been following the anime releases until the last TV season, but they've stretched the whole "same dozen characters have long conversations" framework too thin for me with Rascal since I'm far enough away from age I could have puberty syndrome to stay invested in people going through it.

The last few days there has been several leaks that are saying more Haruhi anime is being produced for the 20th anniversary next year. I think about Haruhi everyday personally.
