Only a few more weeks until the new season starts, it has been a while since I was so excited for a show to return.

Just under two years, and here we are again. Another blockbuster franchise fighting for eyeballs in a season packed with them. Unlike the premiere which needed four episodes at once to get the bandwagon going, this season's pilot is a leisurely one-episode stroll focusing on the relationships within Frieren's party, with the lone action set piece a good excuse to show the contrast between Himmel and Frieren's parties. The first season OP was helmed by a huge name, so this season's one is going to fare badly when contrasted to it. It's made up with better visuals and there are a lot of characters in it which didn't feature in the season which came before, so plenty of material coming up for adaptation. The new ED fares better to the two which came before it, and it has good visuals as well. A lot of the tension in Frieren's party comes down to Fern having Stark under her thumb and getting him depressed when he does something wrong (intentional or otherwise). Yet Frieren on the other hand remembers her compatriots and in trusting Stark the same way she trusted Himmel and the others before she ensures the party will never break up with Stark being so overwhelmed by Fern's pressure that he leaves. It's thanks to Stark that the expedition can continue, since this week is the first time the party has literally flirted with annihilation were it not for Stark being fit and strong enough to haul them both out before the Apex Dragon could have them for dinner. Stark for his part has a promise to keep with his master, and he is grateful to them both for the kick up the backside they gave him to move forward and adventure together with them. Interesting to see Wirbel so soon, and he attempts once more to recruit Stark for the front lines and failing. They're going in different directions for now, but Wirbel's right in saying they'll cross paths once more as Frieren's party makes its measured but inexorable advance towards their final destination far to the North. The next episode indicates it's the start of another major story arc, so moments like these where the trio enjoy their journey will be few and far between when they get involved in something with higher stakes. |

The first episode truly felt like coming home. Within the first five seconds or so you know exactly what you are in for. The episode itself was indeed a relatively calm return, though falling down a cave and getting chased by a dragon are plenty exciting. Those crystals seem like something pretty useful, if they ever find out a way of mining them it would be a big deal.
The demon news has me wondering if there will be a big fight/war with the demons at some point. Animation wise the show is still a stunner with a lovely looking opening, the music is still amazing too. On a sidenote: finding out about the season only having 10 episodes was a bit of a shock to me. |

The 10th episode airs the first week of April, which is usually when there's a changeover in broadcast slots due to the end of the previous quarter's shows. I note the show does not say "end" for that episode on the Japanese broadcast timetable so it might be the remaining quarter's worth of airtime having a different broadcast slots. I might have missed an official announcement about this new adaptation being very curtailed, although I find it unlikely since season one had an odd length exceeding 26 episodes. |

I'm glad to be back on the journey again, instead of taking an exam.
