The animation! It’s gorgeous.

The new opening theme…not a fan so far.

In my opinion, this is the most advanced point of the evolution of shounen action. Kimetsu no Yaiba is also great in visual aspects, but it feels more traditional in its approach to flow of events and storytelling methods. Jujutsu Kaisen feels more grounded yet more experimental at the same time, on top of having a more naturally flowing narrative. I won’t claim that it has the same narrative gravity as FMA and Shingeki no Kyojin, as I consider them unorthodox shounen works in storytelling methods, but the brilliance of the action sequences coupled with fast paced and immersive flow of events elevates Jujutsu Kaisen to the position of the most refined battle shounen in my book. I know some people don’t like Mappa that much, but I think they paved a new path for shounen adaptations with Jujutsu, Jigokuraku, and Chainsaw Man.

Despite S1 looking very rough and the production being an absoulte shitfest behind the scenes? I dunno about that.

I am not interested in what goes on behind the scenes, since many industries have similar problems, and I cannot care about everyone working in bad conditions. I only care about the finished product. You are right that Jigokuraku is a bit rough (though I do not think it is very rough, since I am not too picky), but my comment about how the action scenes look was mostly about Jujutsu. I did not say this clearly before, so thank you for pointing it out. I meant that there is a general trend of not being afraid to try something different from the usual shonen story style, and those three can be considered pioneers for that.
